I’m not. Not even remotely.

When you have a few cards, you hold them close to the vest so no one can figure out what you have.

When you have a pile of cards, you play half of them, so your next opponent has to figure how to defend them—before you throw a chunk of the other half at them.

This team has a huge pile of cards.

Complementing that, the quiet theme among players this season is “going from underdog to top dog”.

Time to stop expecting based on past trends. We’ve reached the point where Matt Campbell’s program blossoms.
The 2021 team had a huge pile of cards. Go back and look at that UNI game.

Not sure why anyone would expect anything looking like urgency or killer instinct from this squad in the non-conference.

I'm hoping this is all true. Would be great going into halftime questioning how many starters will continue playing in the 2nd half.

Also hoping this plays out like many of the top 10 teams' first games; close through the first quarter, then essentially end the game in the 2nd quarter.

The argument has been had on here and i dont know if we came to a consensus, and im assuming we didnt since this is CF, but IMO there are more "cards" this year, than 2021 when half the team was tired of each other

I don’t think ND is a threat and it will be a 30-10 type win. I sip on the preseason Kool-Aid as much as any other Fanatic on here but the Memphis loss creeps into the back of my mind and the shut down of Sama in that game is worrisome. Totally attributable to the OL play. If we can run on Iowa I’ll jump on the bandwagon.

Have we had this type of thing before for football or am I too early?

Perhaps I'm being a bit impatient but go ahead and merge/delete if there's a thread tomorrow.

Predictions? Things to look for? Info on North Dakota? Other things to be excited about?

Prediction: I'm guessing like a 20-6 slow roll type of win.

Things to look for: Looking at the trenches on both sides of the ball more than anywhere else. Is there potential there or are we looking at another work in progress type of deal?

I would like to see if someone like Carson Hansen finds more time on the field somehow. Seemed like the type of guy you need out there somewhere.

Excited for: the opening game being on FS1. ESPN+ hasn't worked for me on any device over the last several years for the Labor Day weekend game.
Also just excited for a full slate of college football games on Saturday.
If the final score is 20-6, it’s going to be a very long season. I predict 41-10. The starters only come out for one drive the second half and the backups play the rest of the game.

This seems like total conjecture. There wasn't obvious infighting or culture issues the way we saw when the '22 season unraveled.

The offense played pretty well most of that season, and the biggest reason we disappointed was because the defense absolutely **** the bed in Lubbock and Morgantown, and the absolute curse U of I holds over the Purdy family. Our special teams sucked too, outside of Mevis.

The were multiple little droppings of supposedly inside info from big personalities around here feeding what that guy is talking about too. When pressed on this, there’s was very little substantive information and projecting was going on by those that drove this narrative. How you described it was way more the reasoning for that season than the other “story” of that year.

UND is listed as a top 25 FCS team, so not going to be a cake walk but I do expect at least a 2 score win. So much up in the air with a new OC on the first game for feeling things out, so hard to predict anything.

Usually issues within a team become sort of obvious with body language and interactions you can see from the stands and on TV. That team just didn't have the obvious markers.

How do we know it will be a long season off of one game, especially the first one?

I think it’ll be somewhere in the ballpark of a 41-10 type game. UND is replacing their four year starter at QB and replacing 4 OL from last year after getting ravaged by the portal. I think Campbell lets Mouser opens it up a touch more than we’ve seen from opening games in the past so he can see what they have and also get Mouser some practice calling plays for the first time. Think we get out to a three score lead at half then by fourth quarter we see a lot of clock control offense

We've scored 30 and 42 in the last 2 season openers. CMC will absolutely call off the dogs if we get up 30-0 like last season, but I don't see a world where we score less than 30. Even if we play pretty conservatively, this team is good enough to put up plenty of points on an undermatched opponent.
