Seems like there were about 3-4 days of consistent nice weather all summer and the rest was either that kind of weird broiling hot kind of heat or pouring rain, or both at the same time.

Killing time at a bar because they have A/C and internet. No power at my place is bad juju for a guy that likes to stay up to 130 am interneting, streaming and reading. Candles don't cut it for that. Sitting around in the dark doing nothing ain't my jamb.

And the walleye fingers were really good.

Me too. :D

I saw Seven Samurai on the big screen in a film class in college. Loved it. Also loved Magnificent 7 (both the Brynner/McQueen and Washington/Pratt versions).

Yeah you can really tell that the spaghetti westerns borrow from the genre. It really is a great movie saw it on a big screen tonight.

Not exactly sure.
youngest got a weird conversation from me last night. He’s taking a college course and it looks to be hard. I told him to not worry about getting an A. I said clear a B of some sort and it’s all good. While it may hamper his scholarships, I told him that getting out a semester to a year early is a huge scholarship.

The schools guidance counselor is terrible. She’s pregnant and didn’t show up a couple days early to organize things. She’s leaving for Dr appts the first couple of days and not getting kids what they need for the college classes. If you can’t get your class access codes, you can’t log in, if you can’t log in, you can’t do the work. Our oldest was born the day before school started but my wife had the first 2-3 weeks all organized and everything lined up and ready incase she went into labor.
I emailed the principal (I had to work with him to set up this class at the end of the school year since the counselor was MIA so there was previous dialogue) and explained the situation.

Son told me that at the start of school yesterday the counselor came in, tossed 3 of the 6 books at him and told the kids she’s having and bad day and wouldn’t meet with any other students that day. Kid told me that on Friday she was having kids forge their parents signature since she hadnt gotten this stuff done in a timely manner already.

I guess I’m just going to go through the principal from now on. He replied back that the other books will be in by Friday.

I think one of the Clint Eastwood trilogy is an unauthorized retelling of Yojimbo.

I'm sure this would be more eloquent if @cowgirl836 would elucidate the reasons, but don't you think a better solution would have been to suggest your son ask the counselor if she needed any assistance in her time of need? As you tell it, it comes across as a huge cowardly d!ck move that you've just passed to the next generation.

Iowa nice, indeed.

To stand up for yourself when you have projects due on Saturday and Sunday and the counselor hasn’t given you the needed books that you have to have? I’m totally confused how it’s a generational Richard move to do what you have to do and not sit there and get 0s on projects due to someone else’s incompetence.

This counselor has been awful and should have been fired a while ago, issue is that school counselors are short in supply so schools just keep crappy ones and move on. The principal has pretty much taken over several of her duties for the higher end students (which my son is one of) because she is a poor counselor.

I’m curious if you have a project due at work and your co-worker won’t give you the needed information to complete it on time if you just sit there and take the heat and lose the work; or do you do what you need to do to finish the project

Edit: added point, I was informed she hadn’t even ordered the books that would have been needed for this weeks due projects. She’s had since the end of may to get this done.

A small battalion of utilty minions a couple hundred yards from my house. All mostly staring at the line and poles mess and thinking about doing something. That was around 930 or . Hearing some noise so maybe should walk over and rubberneck the scene.

Put on a reflective vest and give them some orders and drive away. If you sound confident, they will probably believe you and start doing what you say.

New pole wth transformer is up. May get power back yet today. Not optimistic about interweb though as that's via cable on same pole and unlikely Comcast people will get to that...haven't seen them around at all.

Bad news is forecast for tomorrow is more severe thunderstorms.

But that tree is already down so it won't cause any problems!
