I guess I'm just now realizing how incredibly difficult its going to be for a Big 12 team to ever host a playoff game. Essentially, you'd have be ranked somewhere between 3-8 and have just lost the Big 12 title game.
I was thinking about this also.

unless the the SEC, BIG, Clemson/Florida St/Miami and Notre Dame are having a bad year, then Big12 winner is the only bid I can see coming.

I just hope the Big12 can hold its own and not lose over and over again as the 4 seed playing most likely the BIG/SEC runner ups 2nd round.

Sources in both leagues told ESPN on Monday they would prefer to have potentially four automatic bids each to the playoff when the next contract begins in 2026. CFP leaders haven't determined yet what the playoff will look like beyond this season and next. Some said they need to know that before making any decisions about future scheduling partnerships.

Absolutely ridiculous and if the Big 12 and ACC ever agree to this then it’s over. No conference should have more than 1 guaranteed bid

I think if it gets to that point, then the playoffs need to expand so the B12 gets 2 auto-bids or the B12 needs to seriously consider just doing their own playoff with the ACC and other G5s

The idea that a tournament designed to pick the national champion should gaununtee a spot to a team that finished 4th place in their own conference is beyond stupid.

You’re basically self relegating yourself to a G status at that point.
Yep, it would be a bitter pill to swallow. But 4 autobids each to B10, SEC would be a close second to self-relegating. I think you have to put that on the table to counteract the SEC/Big 10

If we do that (and good luck getting the ACC to play along when this would make them the clear #3), then we can kiss the majority of our media money goodbye (and probably a lot of fan support with it.) No matter how lopsided it gets, we have no choice but to stay involved.

Yeah you’d have to get the ACC to play along. Better option would be to expand playoffs to 16 and Big 12 gets two auto-bids

Frankly, everybody not in the Big Ten/SEC has already been relegated. The vast majority of fans just don't realize it yet.
Some of us do haha. We still have users thinking the Big 12 can get 3!!!!! teams in the playoffs some years.

The Big 12 can get 2 teams in and (maybe 3) if all the stars align. It would have to be a year where it's very top heavy (like the SEC and B1G) and the media would then have to concede to have them in... at least 2.

Oh I agree we’ve been relegated to second-tier status. But think we can still get 2 in most years. That’s a far cry from the 4 the B10 and SEC will get each year though

The Big 12 could get 3..... BUT... the other conferences would have to stumble a bit.

This is probably the 10th time I have posted this and you aren’t the only one so don’t take offense, it’s not my intention but:

The Big 12 will never ever ever ever get 3 teams in the playoff under its current structure. Ever.
