We haven't seen much of J. Frost, so I'd rank a round-of-12 senior (Redding) ahead until shown otherwise. So nice to have depth we have now.
While I agree, J Frost beat him in wrestle offs last year and was our 141 starter until injury (well, and until Ech dropped).

I for one am pretty excited to watch Jacob Frost regardless of if he is our 141 all year or not.

Haven’t totally written Redding off either.
There’s so many moving parts but I’ve been told that “if you like little frost, big frost will not disappoint you”. And I certainly like “little frost”.

Redding scored first but was down 1-2 points when he was taken down off a desperation shot to end match. So I guess it depends on your definition of a close match.

Early season Redding has always had weight and gas tank issues. Frost is not a guy you want to wrestle in that situation. He’ll need to have that under control this year.

Not saying it will happen but Redding does have a redshirt season available

2021 Covid - Freshman
2022 Freshman
2023 Sophomore
2024 Junior

He could Redshirt in 2024-25 and be a 6th year Grad Senior in 2025-26

You must not have watched them in high school if you don’t know much about him. Both are hard nosed

Did he get a medical year in 2022? If he hasn’t already he might retroactively get one. He could have 2 years left of eligibility

I didn’t. I only have so much time and I don’t follow HS wrestling in Iowa as much as I’d like to at all.

For what it’s worth, a little history. Super 32 is arguably the biggest and toughest high school tournament in the country and it’s happening this weekend.

In 2020 Evan got 8th place at 120lbs losing to Tyler Kasak for 7/8th and Cooper Flynn won the weight. Jacob got 4th up a weight at 126 losing to Zeke Seltzer for 3/4th, he’s now at Mizz. Ayala won that weight over Spratley in the finals and Jacob lost to Spratley in the semis.

Obviously there is a lot to sort out in the middle weights, but here are my hopes by weight (not necessarily by wrestler in some cases).

125 - R16 - it’s been awhile since we’ve had a guy at this weight win multiple matches at NCAAs, but between the 3 or 4 guys battling I think there is potential.

133 - mid/high AA. Yes 133 loses Vito/Fix, but Crookham, Bailey, Ragusin, Shawver still exist and you throw in Ayala, Byrd, etc and it’s arguably tougher. Evan will be in the mix.

141 - R12/low AA. I think either guy that wins this weight will be very solid (assuming no AE with CC allegedly out).

149 - mid/high AA. This could be the toughest weight of the 10 but I like our guys chances, whoever it is, to finish high.

157 - R12/low AA. Wasn’t as sure about this one. If CC is indeed out, that puts potentially a somewhat undersized guy here although they both are very explosive. Maybe I’m too low on 157 hopes.

165 - R16/R12. This weight will be very interesting. It really cleared out and could open the door for our winner to sneak on the podium, I just haven’t seen enough of Euton or Rojas if they win it, but MJ could be a real threat at this weight.

174 - Qualifier. 174 got a lot tougher with Haines, KOT, and Hamiti.. Gabe Arnold will be an AA contender as well. If MJ takes 174 I’d raise hopes to R12/low AA, I’m just wait and see on Naak or Riggins.

184 - R16/R12. Bockman is tough as nails and will be tough for 184’s to score on, but what has he added to his offensive arsenal in the room? Cautiously optimistic on him.

197 - R12/low AA. Some probably will say I’m being too low on him, but how is he managing weight and adjusting? Would not be surprised at all if he is higher. Probably the guy I am most excited to watch.

285 - high AA. The way last season ended overshadowed just how dominant this guy was all year. I think he puts it all together this year and finishes high.

These aren’t “expectations” just kind of where I am at with each weight heading into the season.

My lineup expectations based on what we have for wrestle offs-
Meza, Frost, Frost, Ech, Paniro, MJ, Naak/Riggins I’m unsure until I see it, Bock, Carroll, Yonger. If Meza can get it done he should go right away
