The Cardinal on the standard white home jerseys is the same as the football jerseys. Yes, exactly the same.
Nike’s shade of Cardinal has not changed. It’s been the same since we’ve entered into the ‘Elite’ contract level or whatever it was called many years ago. Same shade of Cardinal in all of our recent football uniforms (standard/non-throwback) and basketball, home and away, etc.
Lighting, sweat, indoor/outdoor, on TV vs. in-person, etc. - all play major factors in determining how our eyes interpret different shades of similar colors. Also a key factor are tertiary colors - for example - the white numbers on the football uniforms this year compared to yellow last year tricks our brains. The logos pop different on a light background vs. a dark one. Add all this up and sprinkle in a hefty dose of confirmation bias (“my brother and I were talking at the game last week, I swear the Cardinal looks way darker this year!”) - and you get a bunch of dialog about it! Hell, I was convinced months ago that Nike had jacked up our Cardinal and made it generic red and it turns out - they didn’t.
These new throwbacks for basketball - the red is purposefully a lighter shade, to match the era. I’m sure it’ll “darken” a bit once the players get sweaty though!
