Bit concerning, but I don’t think Gilbert will stay anywhere close to the 20% he’s at now for the year. Also Milan is consistent.
He's initiating the offense more and doing well based on his assists/turnovers. That may be hurting his shooting %. Nice to give Lipsey a break.

Another perimeter offense rolls into Hilton and is destroyed, so it's ok to feel confident about where they are on defensively out at the arc. Ability to drive to the hoop on offense is efficient, tons of assists and open looks outside, but all we've played is a couple tomato can defenses, so it is hard to gauge.

Maui tournament should tell us a lot more about where this team is at. They are ready for the challenge seems like.

Honestly, I think Watson should be eating some of Chatfeild's minutes. Watson is a proven bench player and so far Chatfeild has been okay at best. Hopefully he ends up being a stud, but so far.......ehh. Watson deserves more minutes IMO. I do like the minute split with Heise and Nojus so far. Let the best man win.

I am sure there are internal conversations always going on between players and coaches, but if I put myself in Watson shoes, I am not really thrilled about my role right now, which could eventually change, but who knows.
I am guessing he isn't big enough to replace Chatfields minutes?
We are going to learn a lot over the next couple weeks.

Why do people think they know more about Heise and the roster than the coaches. If y'all had your way, CuJo would have been benched before conference play last season.
Technically he was benched, as I believe the TCU game was the only one he started.

Speaking of Jones, not sure what his vertical is, but he was getting a lot of air last night on a couple of his rebounds. I was impressed.

Was just talking to someone about this. By December 12th I will basically have a much better understanding of what this team is capable of.

They lay an egg out in Hawaii, come back and get beat by Marquette at home and Iowa on the road then you are looking at an unranked basketball team looking for answers.

They win Hawaii and beat Maquette and Iowa, then I think you have to ranked them #1 in the country.

My guess is they will end up somewhere in the middle.
What I don't like about losing the first game in Hawaii (which IMO is toss up) is we end up with 2 games that potentially suck.

Dishon is currently 17th in Kenpom's defensive rebounding %.
A good sign.
I know it's a small sample size, but Chatfield's rebounding stats of 11 offensive boards and 2 defensive boards is bonkers. No one else has more than 6.

That comes out to an offensive rebounding percentage of 37%. in other words - he's rebounding over 1/3 of the cyclone misses when he's on the floor!

he plays catch with the rim instead of actually making a shot

I don't know if I'd say the next 2 games would suck. Probably Dayton and Memphis? Obviously not the same as a 3 game set of Auburn, NC, UCONN, but still solid teams. (Although I haven't look at how either have done so far this year.)

Thought Milan had a bad night, we'll need all of his gifts in Maui,
In these first three games I haven't seen much from him indicating he's expanded his offensive game from last year, other than he's shooting more threes (6.0 vs. 4.6). Maybe we will see something in Maui.

Early and hard to tell much against this level of competition, but Jackson looks to me like he can be a great rebounder. He's big and strong and takes up a lot of space, but he's also great at going and getting the ball. Marcus Fizer was a similar big/strong guy who was good at rebounding in his immediate area but wasn't great at going after the ball outside that area, that's how a 6'8" 260-lb power forward only averaged ~7 rebounds in ~33 minutes/game.

Top 5 matchup in Maui against Auburn on ESPNU? Is this because of MNF (ESPN) / ManningCast (ESPN2). Way too good of matchup to be stuck on ESPNU.

I'm excited to see what we look like Monday - that will really set the tone as we enter some competitive games in the near future.

Remember we were horrible at the Thanksgiving tourney last year (but really good the year before). I agree it will set the tone, but it's not prescriptive of what will happen the rest of the season

Yeah I think some great things are ahead for this group but Maui won't be the bellwether.

Maybe ISU was just staying vanilla but their offense is in a bit of a phone booth so far.

If they can have a chance late vs. Auburn that would be really good imo.

I think it will be close going into the last three minutes due to our defense. Hopefully, we'll have our 4 returning starters in the game and the experience of playing together last year will give us the edge.

I think ISU's defense has been a bit vanilla too and wonder if it's getting new guys acquainted or waiting to ramp it up next week to not show tendencies.

Probably a mixture of both.

Just a follow up...

Ray Natili, the ref that fell last night, worked the game in Cedar Falls tonight and looked just fine. Looks like he avoided anything major. Great news!
Thanks for posting, I have been checking threads for an update. I was sitting in the upper level Monday on the other end of this play and heard his head hit the floor. Glad he seems OK.
