I have an old Garmin. If I had to dress up I'd have nothing nice to wear as a watch so would just have to go sans watch.

Thanks so much to @matclone for today’s topic. I am going to paste it as sent, as it explains it best:

Read today about Rudy Giuliani having to give up 18 (or 26) expensive watches as part of the defamation judgment against him.
Also, today, news of a court order that Yoko Ono was entitled to possession of the expensive watch she gifted to John Lennon just before his death in 1980 (that was later stolen). It's now worth over a million.

Wondering: are expensive watches a New York thing?

Then, I thought of friends and family members, many who have Apple watches (I think).

Wondering: who wears a watch, why and what kind? (I don't wear one).
If I had a watch, which I don't, it would be a pocket watch, a fancy one with a cover. Wristwatches don't fit me too well and they don't seem to keep accurate time when they're on me anyway.

I'm a big tech guy also and loathe smart watches. I can feel my phone in my pocket just fine, and read the text that way. I don't need a screen on my wrist to tell me to reach in my pocket for my phone.

But I'm a HUGE watch guy. I probably have more dollars of watches than any other possession, besides vehicles and house. Actually, not probably, definitely. Not quite into Rolex or AP or Patek territory (i'm just an office drone) but some nice Swiss pieces, down to some cheap Timex and Casios.

You know, there are cable channels that sell only watches. Interesting to "watch" for a minute or two.

I have a pocketwatch as a gift and don't know what to do with it.

I was big into watches for many years and have quite a few. Nothing really expensive; I just liked different styles, colors, etc.

I now exclusively wear a Samsung Galaxy watch. Best piece of electronic equipment I have ever bought. Only comes off to charge.

Fitbit for me 99% of the time.

For the times I am not wearing long sleeves, I buy the cheapest digital watch I can find at DG that looks decent to wear on projects around the farm during which I might scratch the Fitbit even with the screen protector. Sawing and splitting wood, for instance. When batteries go dead, I replace them.
A few years ago I was in a mood and bought a Blue Clues watch that served me well. I had a really nice Kim Possible watch once too.

I used to hate wearing watches, now I don't go out without one. I only have one, cheap, but it looks nice. It tells the time.

I would love to have the watch from Interstellar, but I don't have $800 to shell out for that.

I have had a cheap Timex since about 1993 when I started teaching the oldest son how to tell time, so with hands and numbers, not digital. Went through all the kids that way. Kept wearing the cheap Timex cause it’s easier wearing a watch than pulling out a phone when you are out wrestling kids and/or dogs in public.

My husband & I have a Apple watches. Love them. I like being able to track my steps/walking and sleep. It's a bonus when I left my phone in the other room, get a phone call I don't want to miss and can answer on my watch.

My husband fell in the garage a couple years ago and his watch asked if he was ok or needed emergency services. We convinced my almost 82 year old dad to get/wear an Apple Watch for this. It's not guaranteed to work, but if he falls and it works - it's worth it. (It has at least once already when the old rickety ladder he was standing on last year broke. He was sore, but - THANKFULLY - didn't need emergency services)
I wish we could convince my BIL who has been in ICU four times this year to get one. He has an “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” device but he never has it on when he falls.

I haven't worn a watch since I got a smart phone 12 or so years ago. Before that, it was Timex, Mickey Mouse, etc. I still have a handful of watches, but I've never spent more than $200 for one. I never saw the point of wearing an expensive watch and still don't.
