Is your house haunted?

So I finally bought my Dad's 30 year old house he built himself back in 1994 several weeks back, and I am convinced it is haunted.

One night in May 2023, I saw the shadow of a cat walking into the laundry room on the 2nd floor. Confused, I was convinced Cookie and Missy (my cats) were on the 1st floor, if not outside, so I went to the 2nd floor to the laundry room to check it out. There was no cat. Cookie was outside, and Missy was in the first floor.

I saw the shadow again walking around the top of the stairs near the laundry room in June 2023, August 2023, and earlier this year around June as well. I haven't seen it since.

I'm convinced it was Putty, as she had died in the house in her sleep in her later years, but the build of the shadow looked more like Bob or Tom. But Bob had either run off or was catnapped (we were always convinced he was catnapped as he was such an awesome, fun, alpha cat that basically ran the neighborhood), and Tom had been put down in his later years. Sure as hell wasn't Sparkler or Murphy, as it looked nothing like them.

A couple months later one afternoon, I was in the kitchen, and out of the corner of my eye, my empty plastic ISU stadium cup just randomly fell over on the counter. I just figured it was the ghost cat knocking it over like a cat does. No big deal. It's doing it's thing.

A couple months ago or so, one afternoon, I was in the bathroom on the first floor sitting on the toilet clipping my nails, and I felt a hard tug on the hood of my jacket. That kind of spooked me, but I thought it may have been the ghost cat again tugging on me, but it was just so odd that maybe it wasn't a cat. Obviously spirits can reach through walls. I still believe that one was human.

Then, last week, one afternoon, I was in the 1st floor bathroom again washing my hands, and I heard my container of blood pressure pills hit the kitchen floor. I didn't think much of it at first, but then I went back out, it was on the other side of the kitchen, as though it had been tossed across the kitchen.

The last few days, while having my "nightcap" before bed, I felt a tug on the neck of my coat behind me, similar to what happened previously (though no hood on this jacket this time). However, I have my "nightcaps" standing up. I am not sitting down.

Perhaps those are due to the wind as I have the door cracked to air out the cigar, but I stand far enough away from the door, that it couldn't be the wind I feel. I'm also in the basement. I like to think that perhaps the tugs I felt in the basement were from the spirit of my Dad, as I'm near his guitar studio, but he died in hospital when my sister and I agreed to pull the plug in March 2023. Who knows.

Though I haven't felt any tugs tonight, so maybe it was just the wind these past few nights. Again, who knows.

Anyway, I'm not scared or anything, as I feel with spirits (if you believe in them like I do), just leave them alone, let them have their fun, and everything is fine (assuming they are friendly spirits).

I'm interested in hearing similar stories if any of you have some.

The house we lived in when I graduated high school many thought was haunted. I do know a couple of infants died in the old Victorian house in the early 1900s. Definitely had some strange things happen. Hard knocking on front door (which at the time no one used and had no sidewalk or steps leading to it) only to open it as knocking was happening and no one was there. A globe I kept on my desk in my bedroom was moved to the other corner of the room on the floor and I was the only one home during that weekend. Many say you could see our attic lights on and off while our family was out of town. @Angie did you ever hear anything about our house?

Childhood friend lived in a turn of the century mansion. The family had many stories of a girl. Occasionally see her in a window approaching the house and many other accounts.

I had one experience where it was very clear someone leaned on the bed and looked at me while I was resting.

My FIL is renting an old farm house that is pretty well known to be haunted by a ghost named Harriet. Nothing crazy, a some screams, rolls a marble across the floor (no marble), etc.

I'm pretty sure that she is more terrified of my FIL and BIL than they are of her. God bless her for putting up with them ;)

House we rented when i was very little was haunted. I remember being chased around. Later, a friends family rented it, like 5-6th grade age. Same, they saw and felt things happening. It was a very old house, had been used in smuggling during prohibition.

Currently my house is haunted by the thoughts of a magical season that could have been, but is no more.

No spirits that I’m aware of though.

To this day I have a dream of there being a portal to hell in the basement of the house I grew up in. When I go home I am scared to this day of going into that room!

Local priest was asked to go bless this house in Boone. Owner’s were having this old home remodeled. One day, workers refused to go into the house. They told the owners it was haunted. Priest went over and started blessing each room. He went into the basement and saw this black cloud hovering above him. He stayed calm and went about blessings with holy water. He said the cloud all of the sudden moved up the stairs and just dissipated. Said it was the most bizarre thing he’d ever seen.

Did your dad by chance build his house on an old Indian burial ground?

Kinda makes you wonder what your dad did to those cats if they are haunting the house.

We had a dog sitter that thought our house was haunted. Me, not so much.

Wife is convinced we have an older lady who comes around time to time. Me personally idk but it was a little "freaky" one night my wife stood up in bed and said someone was in our doorway....so I got up walked to our doorway and saw our dog was locked in hair standing up just staring down the hallway. I never saw anything and have always just given the sarcastic Oh I'm sure to my wife but for some reason when our dog was like that I was a little taken back. Never told the wife that our dog was like that and just told her nope nothing lets go to sleep.

My mom used to claim she saw things in our barn but it was only ever before she let the dogs out of their pen in the early mornings.

When I was a junior in high school, I arrived home after dark and still had chores to do. No one else was at home. I got to the well to turn on the pump to fill up the water tank for the hogs, I heard someone call my name from behind. It startled me so I spun around. There was no one there.

i live in a house that was built in 1907 and was used as a funeral home for the homeowners/farm hands when they passed away.

i've seen the death certificates of the men who lived in the home (its a family home) and they all died in the house.

yet, i have not had any woo-woo moments that I can recall.

i don't think it would necessarily be "haunted" because if I were to experience anything, i think it would friendly.

In old days, visitations were held at homes with the casket there. Any house built early 1900s or earlier would probably have had that.

yup, the room you would walk in to from the front door is what was used. Nice little cut out where the casket would sit.

I did not necessarily believe in this sort of thing until earlier this year. My wife's grandfather passed away at home on hospice. His funeral was all normal until the end after the eulogies etc. the final song was Frank Sinatra's "I Did It My Way". Everyone is emotional and losing it and then this curtain up on the alter started moving like a big gust of wind was blowing in. The pastor went nuts and moved it to show everyone there was nothing back there. Speaking to a couple of family members sitting further back in the chapel and he said just before that he felt a wind go by that caused him to turn back thinking someone was walking in late but no one was there. Everyone took it as the service had become too serious and it was his way of making the mood lighter.

Now back at their house there is a ceiling fan/light in the living room where he passed. It has never had any issues until sometime since his passing it starts turning off and on randomly. I believe they had someone look at it and claim there are no issues soooooooo.

In a relative's house way back in the day, their dog would scratch like hell at the door leading down to the basement. I can't remember why they were doing this, but for some reason they had to dig in their basement and found some old steps leading down. They kept digging but never found the last step. They just had to stop because it was getting to be too much work. Or they were creeped out.
