Im trying to think of football coaches who have gotten a head coaching job at a P5 school without having ever coached at the college level. Seems like a huge risk. Granted, we've obviously all seen it work for basketball.
Gerry Faust went directly from High School to Notre Dame.
Mike Shula was a career NFL assistant before going to Alabama.
Joey McGuire went directly from High School to Texas Tech.

It's worth noting that he appears to have no ties to college coaching whatsoever. College may not be his gig and he's doing fine in the UFL.

If coaching Rocco is a first order goal this seems shortsighted.

Why coach him 2 years at WVU when you could coach him for 5-10 in St. Louis?

Regardless, I think we’d likely find the blood of the covenant is actually not thicker than the water of the womb if Coach Becht ends up in Morgantown.

How concerned should we be about the West Virginia opening? Because I have no doubt that if Anthony Becht gets the job, Rocco will go with him. Saw that the Penn State OC is interviewing for the job, so that’s promising

Why do you have no doubt? What do you know?

Rocco and his Dad say they love their experience with CMC, staff, program, university and town. Rocco is firmly entrenched in a program that has won 10 games so far this season. Why would Dad want to disrupt that and dig is kid out of that?

Maybe Dad does? So, I ask, what do you know?

Agree. People seem to assume Anthony Becht would be targeted for WVU's HC. Could be they hire a guy like Jimbo and he hires AB as OC or position coach. Jimbo's 59 so maybe he coaches at WVU for 6-8 years and grooms AB to take over.

Being a college coordinator is in the weeds, pays well and they deal with half the BS that head coaches have to deal with.

Testifying
I'm really curious what happens to Jimbo's buyout if he takes a job

Good grief. Some of you people just like to be miserable and create unnecessary drama. The job is Kotelnicki’s to lose. If he’s interested, he’s the best candidate. B12 experience with KU, and proven he’s capable of winning.

Also, I believe this is Bakers first FB coaching hire so it needs to be a good one. Becht isn’t the big splash that he needs.

Why are people thinking a UFL head coach is that different than a college coach? He’s just need to hire an experienced recruiting coordinator. The football side isn’t that different.

If you listened to Williams podcast with Anthony he is totally trying to get a collegiate job. If offered the WVU job I would be very surprised if he doesn't accept. If he accepts then it would be irresponsible of their NIL not to pursue Rocco.

You could be correct. Me, I can't see it. So, here we fans are, projecting onto other people what our beliefs and values are; I'm thinking we don't have much of a clue.

(Me, I'd be stunned if Rocco followed his Dad to WVU. But, who the hell knows? Any of us?)

It would be a Holberg type move. Risky on the field, but he’d win over the fan base.

About as concerned as I should be that Angelina Jolie is going to slide into my DMs and ask me to leave my wife for her.

Everybody within the program would be pumped if Anthony got the WV job. I said this in the yearly dumb*** Campbell to "x" thread. You all have inferiority complex issues. Rocco is not leaving regardless of his dad coaching WVU.

You think if Rocco turned down huge $ to go to big name SEC schools he's going to leave to go play for his dad at WVU? We have to get past this crap and realize we are effing here. Like this is it we are finally here after all these years of mediocrity. Embrace it, if people leave it's for $ we can't do anything about it. If you want to win and improve your draft stock we are the place to do it. Rocco ain't going anywhere regardless of Anthony and this thread is f'ing stupid.
If he thinks his dad gave him the best shot at the nfl, he'd go...and he should. That was a main takeaway I got from dad interview. They stayed not because they love ames... but because they had the best weapons to help Rocco. I am a bit nervous about next year because he loses the top 2 targets.

Would he at first though? I remember many of the posters on here thought FH was a gimmick hire at the time and then he created transfer U and absolutely revamped ISU bball program

I love Becht as a player at WVU, but there is zero chance he gets head coach job. Great guy--maybe a te coach.

RROD wouldnt want your qb, he prefers qb who is more option-type and they need to be very fast and able to take a beating.

I think ISU would be more likely to lose him to a big-name program that makes him an offer he can't refuse. LSU needs a qb, just saying.
Maybe a team like LSu hires the dad and then makes him an offer of twice what's he's getting at ISU?

I dont see WVU as a threat.

If not already pointed out, I’d be fine rolling the dice with Moberly next year based on what I’ve seen.
This.

Rocco is 100% the unquestioned starter, and deservedly so.

But if we're being objective, his value has mostly been as a gamer and a leader, a nicer way of saying a game manager.

Those traits are essential to being a successful quarterback, no doubt. But the physical or statistical component is very important too, and he hasn't exactly blown anyone away in that regard much of the time.

I'm very excited to see what Moberly and the Algona kid coming in can do when the time comes. But the ball is in Rocco's court when that happens as long as he's here. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it either way.
