Some sort of analyst.
Analyst to OC is quite a leap forward professionally.

Seems like Campbell has been grooming him for this sort of opportunity.

I'm pretty sure Kempt was a QB coach the last couple of seasons. Before that, he was an analyst/graduate assistant.

The way I think of this.
KK leaving is a good thing in the long run. If he succeeds at Drake he will be a great candidate to replace Mouse when/if he gets poached. Will hopefully work out his growing pains as a play caller and come back to Ames ready to run a P5 offense.
We aren't hiring Drake's OC to be our OC. If anything he'd come back as a position coach.

Yeah. I feel like If Kempt ever came back as our OC he would have to go from Drake to a school in a conference like the Sun Belt or MAC first, prove himself, then he might have a shot as our coordinator if the position opens up.

Definitely see Kempt back at ISU as an assistant in a few years. This is great experience for him.

Kempt is doing this the right way. If you have aspirations of being a P5 head coach or even an OC, you need to gain experiences at multiple places. Coaches don't typically start at the bottom and work their way up through one program.

This. It’s a great career move and he doesn’t even have to pack his stuff and move. There was no certainty that he was going to be a full time coach at ISU. There would need to be some exits and promotions for that to happen. Might as well get some good experience calling plays.

I wonder who Campbell has in mind for his replacement.

a position that was probably paid like sh*t.

Should get a nice little pay bump to be on staff at Drake.
According to the state salary database, Kempt had a 60K salary at ISU in 2024; his wife also works for ISU, wonder if she'll stay in her job or they will offer her something down at Drake.

Kempt's official title is "Quality Control/Offensive Pass Game". Jake Waters is the official QB's coach (who's in the booth with Mouser).

Waters is the QB coach. Kind of like how Mouser helped with TE’s with Manning before becoming the TE coach.

Was he running backs before that? Waters that is.

No, I think Waters was named running backs coach briefly at one point, but then they hired Rouhl and Waters moved to QB. I think it was a matter of days.

State salary database lists Polk County as their county, so there's a good chance they won't even need to move.

EDIT: Looks like they live on the west side of Ankeny. Drake is actually a few minutes closer to them than ISU.

He's 45. I doubt he thinks about his replacement.
