is this trusting the process, or winning in the margins?

Guys... there's like 4 jobs i would be concerned about.

Penn State
Ohio State
Notre Dame
Browns
With all due respect, there's more than that. Yes, CMC has shown its not all about the Benjamins. At the same time.... all I'm saying is... there comes a point in time where all of us, in whatever field we are in respectively, would leave a job we are happy at and could see ourselves at for 25 more years if the offer was right.

And that's not a character slander. Clearly, it's not everything to Matt or else he would have left long ago.

I'm just saying. There are jobs with resources and stature comparable to those that in theory, would be mighty attractive.

Am I concerned about the Bears job? At this time, I don't believe so. Could be proven wrong of course on that one but at the moment, no.

Neither do I find any fault in taking the interview. Just like LSU canned Brian Kelly and they asked and offered a whole lot of zero's... I'd interview. Would I leave? Maybe not, but I'd listen. There's no shame or blame or any kind of criticism in interviewing. Hell, its a sign of having a great coach

I'd rather have a coach be interviewed or wanted by "bigger" programs, trust that he loves where he's at and the process, etc, than have a coach no one thought was good enough to offer or chase

I totally agree with your points. As to jobs money can be a very good reason to change jobs as long as the new one meets all your other wants. To change just for money and go somewhere that does not look like a long time fit can be a big mistake. For me the NFL would not be a place I would go when you see the way coaches get fired even when they have made improvements. The colleges listed are ones where you better make big improvements quickly as they want a winner and want it yesterday.

Agree with you points. What if MC has a dream of being an NFL coach...then he has to take an opportunity if ever offered. What if he fails? Has he accomplished enough at the college level to fail at a NFL job and land on his feet back in college? I would say yes! I mean...Matt Rhule isn't hurting...he failed quickly at the NFL and landed at Nebraska. It isn't like MC would have to work his way up thru a MAC school in his next go-around at the college level...if there was one.

Trump was once a pro football franchise owner. Maybe he/Congress will consider fixing CFB. The future is pretty limited at ISU when you see all the high talent portal moves that exclude ISU. Maybe the NFL can draft the future rights (like baseball) of college players, so they are considered development league players while in college. The NFL pays them a token salary, until they leave college, and they are preassigned to a certain team. Any CFB starters not covered by NFL get $50k from a combined revenue pool paid by ESPN, NBC, etc. With this setup, the gerrymandered conference assignments become unnecessary, and geographical/traditional alignments can be re-established. NIL is gone but portal could be kept in order to maintain relevancy of backups.

Not keeping up with getting transfers isn’t any different than before. How did our recruiting classes rank in the seasons before 2020 or 2024?

It is the change in transfers out that would drive a guy like CMC to NFL or an elite college job

Doing a good job identify and developing now is much more likely to mean losing guys to other college programs, whereas in the past you could more readily build teams

NIL and transfer rules are needed, as is a spending cap

He single handily killed the USFL. Give me a break.
