People remember tourney champs more than regular season IMO.
As long as we get a good seed and a good placing in the tourney I'm good with it.

Ideally why not both.

We remember who wins the conference tournament because we've had success there the last dozen years. I feel like more people could name the regular season champ from previous years than the tournament champ.

And we remember it clearly even more so because it's "us."

I suppose that applies to some extent to regular season titles. But those still get more 'attention' historically than league tourneys, fwiw.

It's cool that it has become sort of an identity over the past decade, and fantastic experience for fans who can attend, but I certainly wouldn't rank it as a better achievement than regular season.

I strongly disagree with the tournament champ over regular season champ thing. One is performance over a whole year, Theo the other is who got hot over the period of a couple days.
Are you talking about the same tournaments?

Does anyone really remember that Duke has only one out-right ACC regular season title since 2006?

At this point it’s all about the NCAA Tournament imo. I’d take an EE over a regular season title

I don’t think anyone outside of people in the conferences themselves knows who wins the regular season or tournament. To me regular season always is more impressive/important but yeah actual dance is what matters to most.

I’m not sure how much capital it has within the conference if not having the corresponding NCAA success. Realignment has somewhat diminished with unbalanced schedules and loss of longtime peers

But it clearly is a bigger accomplishment than conference tournament, and generally requires winning a ton of games, which correlates to prominence in itself

I'm kinda luke warm on both to be honest with the mega conferences although even then I can see the point of being consistent over 2-3 months no matter who you play.

Either way the END end result, a tourney run or FF, is what gets noticed, even though in itself is also about getting hot over a short time.

The ACC is a different dog, as the ACC considers the Tournament Champion to be the ACC Champion.

As for Iowa State and the Big XII, I would rather the Cyclones win the Regular Season than the Tournament - given a choice, but either are a great achievement.

Of course, to have another year like 1999-2000 where they won BOTH is best of all!

Wait what? Is that true about the ACC?

Yes, goes back to the days when the ACC Tournament Champion was the only rep to the NCAA Tournament. In ACC World winning the ACC Tournament remains more important than the Regular Season standings, as the ACC Tournament Champion is the "Official" ACC Champion.
