As much as the Johnson experiment should be ending, the gaitan experiment should be 100x more done. Him being/not being in the lineup is going to be one of the early indicators of our teams ceiling. Exact same boat for chittum, which to be fair doesn’t sound like he’s going to give us the option of starting him.
I'm on the record as saying that I think MJ's ceiling is a mid AA guy. Round of 12 as a freshman. Something was obviously wrong with him this year and Dresser eluded to the fact on multiple occasions he was a fighter and not healthy.

FYI this is 20 min long

I watched all 20 minutes and I’m a little speechless. He’s an interesting guy, I’d almost put equal odds that he’ll someday be in the WWE or be a preacher. Half the interview was talking about his faith and the other half was all over the place and included a bit of everything, including a random Caitlin Clark reference and comments about how no other school would take him last year.

He also mentioned a couple times how he tried to play mind games with Buchanan before their match yesterday and then the last couple minutes of the interview he went off about how when someone runs down his family it sets him off. Hopefully he realizes that once athletes get a reputation as a hot head, everyone is going to be just trying to get them to lose it again.

Overall though, I really did get the sense that he is sincere when he says he’s trying hard to be better and not lose his composure again so I’ll be rooting for him next year.

Disagree on MJ.

Get him in the weight room all summer for 174 and I think he’s an AA contender.
I've been saying this and he was looking great/did a great job working with Ben to build into a full sized 174... Then he cut down to 165 and that decision was a terrible one. Some really head scratchers this past season.. Grasping at straws to have a "title contender team" resulted in a bad season. Why are people still talking about AJ also? No way we bring him in, nor should we. Do people deserve a second chance? Absolutely. Do I think he really wants to be better and do better? No question. Just doesn't seem like a good fit here.

Whatever weight MJ had in mind this year was irrelevant. He still can’t defend his legs. He still is very limited with low level attacks. I’m sure the reason he doesn’t do well in wrestle offs is his teammates (even those of lesser talent) know to stay away from the upper body ,and aren’t really afraid of him on his feet.

Never say never, but I have a hard time seeing him getting through a large tournament on the podium with his skillset.

After seeing Hamiti and Captain America last night, no one can question any recruit or transfer for picking the Cowboys. Dave Taylor and that program are going to be a big problem for a long time. Congrats to them. Hope we can figure out how to compete but it's going to be tough without lots and lots of money and I'm not sure what else.

Speaking of Ben - anyone know why he was let go? Seemed like the team really loved him and he did a great job putting mass on guys. Hope it wasn't because of the one year of crazy injuries.

Definitely an interesting listen - great summary

Going sctrictly with what is on the roster right now (could change any time obviously) we have base lineup options of:

125 - Meza/Castillo
133 - Grice/Osmany/Meza (can’t see E Frost doing the cut again).
141 - Frosts
149 - J Frost, Ech, Paniro
157 - Paniro, Chittum, K Naak
165 - Riggins/Euton
174 - MJ
184 - Bartelt/T Naak
197 - Bartelt/Schon
285 - Yonger

Pretty solid base in that lineup and that would win a lot of duals, hope we can add some tourney scoring pieces to it.

We saw several other instances where guys on other teams tried bumping up and it wasn’t going well for them so they cut back down (Strickenberger WVU and Orine NC ST are two that come to mind), so you never know if guys like Frosts wouldn’t be as effective bumping up (I think they would be just fine with their style).

I missed that, thanks for the update. Would also like to hear why, ligament injuries tend to happen more from dehydration and cutting down too much. Interested to know more

I haven’t watched a lot but I saw the Ferrari from UCSB after his 3rd place win. His overly dramatic reaction looks so staged and fake. It’s lnot me he’s trying to portray himself as a good person down deep

At this point I don’t care who we bring in. This staff has had 1 guy wrestle above seed in the past 4 years and it’s David Carr. He’s their only guy that hit the top of the podium and I think he could have done it anywhere. We are scoring points at an Utah Valley level, and only two wrestlers wrestled at seed this year, the Frost brothers. And one was heavily favored at the beginning of the year and fell apart late:

Honestly I’m ready for a new staff. This one has underperformed at every tournament or barely met expectations. There are never good surprises just bad ones and injuries. Get em out.
Interesting take....If next year is another bust, then real discussions need to be had. Like it or not, ISU is a blue blood in wrestling and falling behind the likes of Wyoming and Indiana at the NCAA Wrestling Championships is unacceptable.

We were decimated with injuries this year and last year Feldcamp got injured at the wrong time and so did Bastida as well. Last year Guitan wrestled above seed, Carr above seed, and E Frost above seed as well. This year J Frost above seed, Guitan above seed, and Riggins above seed. Where are you getting information? I get the frustration but injuries have played a huge role in all of this.
