I'll learn to hate him, I'm sure, but I know BM's a coach that makes a team more than the sum of its parts. That's one thing Fran never could do. This is a good hire by Iowa. That doesn't mean he'll get the back end support he wants, but he'll have a chance to build it up.

I wouldn't even be so much worried about him getting enough talent. It will just be a steep learning curve to know and balance the trade offs of talent vs the system and culture you want. I always think back to Greg McDermott at Iowa St. Part of it was he just had some back luck, but I also think a big part of it was having trouble finding that balance that worked for him in the guys he brought in and how to best help them succeed. All of a sudden he was able to get a lot more (or maybe just different) talent than he was used to and it pretty clearly caused him issues. He's a good coach and was able to learn and adapt, but it took a failed stop to get there.

I think McCollum has a different GMac problem. We had some good players, GMac is obviously a good coach, but the league just ate us up during that time. Big 10 is only going to get better/harder.

Should be interesting to see who Brian Hardin gets for Drake. With the portal open, I would think that he would want to get someone hired soon. He offered BMC more money than any Drake coach has ever been offered. Plus a bump in NIL cheddar.

Hawkeye Nation is not the most lovable or patient fan base.
Huh??

Football coach going on 26 years
Women’s bball coach for 25 years before retiring
Wrestling coach just finished his 18th hear
Men’s bball just fired a coach after 15 years

Those have to be the longest combined tenures ever in the history of college sports.

Where does WV turn now?

Wren Baker needs to tread carefully. HE refused to hire the Utah State coach, who has strong connections to WVU and Huggins. Logical choice.

He wants to keep Huggins at arm's length, which pisses off many donors. The Wake Forest coach wants the job, but he hasn't gotten WF to the NCAA in his 5 years there. If Wren goes that route, not a popular one, he'd better pray it works out.

West Virginia is failing bad right now. He was the logical choice for them. This is kind of the last good option and they are avoiding him. So weird.

With Ken Kendrick pumping tons of money into WVU baseball and giving RROD the green light to "get what he needs" from the spring portal, I have to wonder if the wallet, which is open for football and baseball, is now more limited for hoops.

Why not hire Chris Mack?

The AD Barta was laughably patient with Fran for the last half of his tenure as Carver became a morgue. The FAN BASE had lost its patience and forced his dismissal by showing their support by not putting butt’s in seats. The FAN BASE forced Ferentz to remove his son from his position as potential successor. The knowledgeable Hawkeye fb fan along with the national sports media is aware the Ferentz vanilla offense featuring Punting is Winning produces a fake narrative and is exposed when playing in a B10 championship. You are correct Barta was patient, the fan base not so much.
