*** Cyclone Fanatic Cereal Tournament: Round of 64 ***

Special K with Red Berries got screwed in the seeding. My wife recently bought some monster boxes of that stuff at Costco, and it immediately became one of my favorites.

So are we going to get a W/L breakdown by conference, i.e. Kelloggs, General Mills, Post, Nestle, etc.?

Omaha enters the transfer portal (confirmed)

Maybe not over, but different. The Biliew situation was really odd to me. In particular, some of the difficulties he showed during the times he got in the game were odd for a 5* recruit, overrated or not, and IMO not particularly related to whether he was playing the 3, 4 or 5. My thought is...

***Official 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Thread***

Metrics are quantitative, but they aren't foolproof. KU, Houston, and BU, who were in the pre-season top 25, were pretty strong in the pre-conference, and were picked to finish 1, 2 , and 4 in the Big 12, all incurred serious injuries during the conference season that affected their play in a...

    Offense > Defense

I'm hoping this is something that the ISU coaching staff can address. The difficulty to score around the hoop isn't just a one-time thing that happened last night. To me, it seems that there is often hesitancy and uncertianty in how to finish off moves around the hoop. Apart from dunks, those...

    Offense > Defense

I think this is a significant issue that the ISU coaching staff needs to work on. This problem has also surfaced in regular season games. And its not just a slow start, it is more like total discombobulation at times for the first 10-15 minutes.

***NCAA Second Round: (7) Iowa State at (2) Stanford [Sun., 9:00 CT]***

You see this in both the men's/women's game...kids that had a size advantage in high school, when they get to college, have to learn how to create space, as they didn't really have the necessity to learn that skill in high school.

***NCAA Second Round: (7) Iowa State at (2) Stanford [Sun., 9:00 CT]***

Yes, "uglying up" the contact is a good approach...make the contact obvious. Another is to start the move earlier, right when the defender is starting to lean over the top. In that moment the defender is off-balance and really unable to react.

***NCAA Second Round: (7) Iowa State at (2) Stanford [Sun., 9:00 CT]***

Hopefully a learning experience for Crooks, and she (and the team) can develop something to counter the "arms over" defense. Stanford basically just dared the refs to call the fouls, knowing full well that the refs weren't going to do it time after time. She will probably see that strategy...

*** Official Kansas State vs #7 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Lots of scoring yesterday (apart from KU). I'm hoping that ISU brings the functional version of their offense to KC.

Yup. The offense has been strugglng for the last couple of weeks, but they have been able to eek out some stretches of enough coherent offense to pull out the wins. Not today. Hoping the staff can tweek some things. I think it will be tough to pull off any kind of tourney runs scoring under 60.

    Any Lincoln vehicle owners here?

My second car was my Dad's 1975 Marquis Brougham. It was about 10 years old when i got it as a college car for a couple of years. I really liked driving it, but it had a 460-4V, and keeping it fueled just got too expensive. For those interested in the 1970's Marks, this video does a...

    Any Lincoln vehicle owners here?

If it's a 1972 Mark IV with cruise control, then you should buy one. Everything 1973 and later was ruined by the gaudy 5-MPH bumpers, but the post-1972 Mark IV's are still pretty cool cars nonetheless. If you are going for the superboat motif, 1970-1972 Continental will do the job. On a more...

    *** Official #6 IOWA STATE vs #2 Houston Game(Day) Thread ***

I think this sums it up pretty well. ISU manages its high-intensity demeanor well enough most of the time, but it does get away from them occasionally. Last night, given the caliber of the opponent, ISU just needed to be a bit more in control on a few occasions. From a correction standpoint...

Could this team become the best team in Cyclone MBB History?

Something that doesn't get mentioned much about that 1999-2000 team because of the defense and toughness...that team was good offensively. They averaged 77.8 PPG conference/78.3 PPG overall, shot 49% FG and 37% 3PT. I think offense is an issue for the current team. I was looking back at the...

*** Official #14 IOWA STATE vs Texas (SAMSUBA) Game(Day) Thread ***

Often when "bigs"/post players come to college, they are kind of raw. Many of them "grew" into that position later in high school and they haven't played the position long enough to develop the position skills to the level that players at other positions have. That said, ISU seems to struggle...
