Not exactly sure.
What was the story on Adam Carper, he injured his knee as a SO and never played again? Also Crosby, didn't he kick two 60+ yard FG's in Boulder to beat ISU the next year, I think.
Carper tried but never was the same.

I seem to recall people talking about how amazing it was to hear the entire marching band playing in Hilton. Were any of you there to hear it in person?

I love how many of us were students for this game. I still vividly remember the tornado -- we were grabbing a quick bite to eat at MWL before the game, and suddenly the wind picks up and starts pummeling the wind downstairs with rain. I don't think we ever took cover, but we realized pretty quickly after trying to go outside to see the storm that the sirens were going off.

Being in the student section for Curvey's pick-six is a memory that will be etched in my brain for eternity. I agree with others, I feel like the 2004 and 2005 freshman classes were introduced as fans during a special time, especially after the let-downs of the second half of the 2002 season and the entirety of 2003.

I walked through and heard one song. It was fuller in volume than usual due to a much larger band than normal for Hilton.

Hey everybody remember how after that game we thought we had the Big 12 North locked up (and the right to play Texas in Houston two weeks later, if I recall) and then we went down and lost to the fightin' Kansas Jayhawks in overtime to Mark Mangino and it was all downhill from there for McD?

I do. Good days. That Colorado game was the last great McCarney win until maybe winning his "farewell" game against Missouri.

Crazy it's been 15 years. I was also a freshman. We luckily stayed in Larch until stuff had passed.

If I remember right we had a decent lead against KU and Mac did one of his patented “run out the clock with an average running game and play a prevent defense that gets gashed” end of game strategies. Then when the offense needed to turn it back on they couldn’t and they pissed it down their leg. I remember being disappointed in 04 about missing the championship and being furious in 05. We had the best team in the north that year easily, but no killer instinct and some injury issues. If Mac would’ve kept his foot on the gas more often he would’ve had 5-10 more wins over his career.

It took me awhile to get over that Kansas game. In hindsight, I always thought it was dumb of me to be so absorbed, but now that I remember how much of a letdown it must have been after an incredible win over Colorado the week before... I forgive you, young AirWalker.

I was also a freshman. I'm a weather nerd so I was following the weather in my dorm room before I went to the stadium. The sirens were going off as I went into the stadium and I ran to each end of the stadium watching it pass to the west and then northwest, when you could just catch a glimpse of the funnel/tornado.

The atmosphere during the game was electric and that north wind was crazy. Crosby kicked a FG into the wind that landed on top of the Jacobsen building...

Started tailgating in the student lots, and walked to C6 about an hour before initial kick off with a handful of buddies as became tradition. It was a beautiful day as I remember so everyone was extra “cheerful.” Once we all came to terms with the sight to the west and many streaming toward Hilton, my mother excitedly shouts, “hey go you guys want brats?” So we promptly made brats and drank every last drop of booze we could find. What a day, capped by the Curvey TD that had us losing our minds!

I went to that game in boulder and it was a tough one to stomach. Iowa State should have never lost, but just could not figure it out that day. Damn boulder was a LOT of fun.

Never thought about it in that respect... The tornado game was the last good McCarney memory. That Kansas game did not sit with me well at all. I just recall the point swings because of some horrible replay overturns.

Hearing Mac talk about the Tornado game in that interview CW did with him was one of the best things I’ve ever heard.

I’ll never forget this! The band has just made it to the stadium. I was towards the back of the band and all I heard was: “about face, TORNADO!” So I took off running as fast as I could, shako under my arm. I remember knocking a beer out of a poor tailgater’s hand with my elbow. If you are out there, I am sooo sorry!!

Kind of the same with me. I think what made that one especially difficult is that we lost to Mizzou the prior season that would have gotten us in the championship game. Kind of like deja vu all over again.

At least I wasn't standing on the sidelines, ready to rush the field for the KU game.

I was in the back row of the parade into the stadium with Bong (one of the drum majors) came around the corner yelling at us, "GO BACK!"

So me and my other trumpet friends went from the back of the train to the front of the train in an instant. We had to clear all the parking barriers and the people along the route as everybody else came up behind us in a melee.

Those were some heady times.
You probably should have gotten pointers from the Iowa band on how to clear a path through the crowd for the band.

;)
