Plenty of fans will think I'm too optimistic. This is possibly 2 or 3 wins too rich. I just couldn't pinpoint where to put any of those "shouldn't have lost" games that I expect will happen, and some of the L's could be routs, which would balance out the actual W-L.

I didn't try to come up with the scores. I got lazy this year.

Northern Arizona W 1-0
Alabama State W 2-0
Drake W 3-0
v Creighton L 3-1
Kennesaw State W 4-1
Montana State W 5-1
@ Northern Iowa L 5-2
California L 5-3
SE Missouri State W 6-3
@ Iowa L 6-4
Texas Southern W 7-4
Dartmouth W 8-4
Chicago State W 9-4
@Virginia L 9-5
Northern Illinois W 10-5

Calling a win against Baylor?! that's a pretty ballsy predition.

I think we do about what u said in the non-conference, except we beat Creighton, Iowa, and UNI as well. I also believe that we manage to blow one of the games that we should win in the non-conference.
As for the conference games, I think we get Nebby home and away and then get one maybe two other wins at home. Finish the season 15-16 (3-13). I think that puts us at 11th in the conference with a early exit from the Big XII tourney with a loss against Okie State.

I think we win either Cal or @Virginia, but also will lose 1 to a no-namer...As far as conference goes, yes it will be a long season. I don't think we beat Baylor at home but will beat Mizzou at home. 6 or more wins in conference would be great. This season will just be such a good learning experience for everyone involving the program-players, coaches, even fans. As has been said many times on here, barring any unforeseen circumstances, we only lose 4 players(3 seniors, 1 not yet named) after this season and gain a lot of good talent. I do feel for the seniors having to endure an upcoming season like this, but really appreciate their effort. Their work does not have to go unnoticed though, because they can teach all these young guys and set the tone for the years to come under Fred.

Beat Missouri at home? Care to elaborate on why you think that? Missouri will be one of the top four teams in the Big 12 this season IMO.

Hate to break it to everybody, but Creighton isn't going to be terrible this year. They're picked 4th in the Valley, even with McD as coach. Should be a good game, and maybe later in the season we'd have a better shot. But that is one that I don't expect to win this early in Fred's first year.

I do think we have a good chance to beat Cal (picked 7th in the terrible Pac-10) and Iowa (who will suck just as bad as last year). Don't see us beating Baylor. I think we'll end up within a game or two of .500.

You're joking, right?

Oh, come on man!

You're killing me!

Reasonable reaction. :yes:

I see no reason ISU couldn't win at least two of those — but maybe that's where youth comes into play. (It would be a bummer to lose to GM but I have bigger fish to fry — then again, I think it'll be as close to a home atmosphere as you could get, outside of Hilton, for this one).

Hawks are in worse immediate shape, it seems, but ISU can't seem to win in IC, no matter the season. Would be nice to change that.

I disagree with the Baylor and Colorado wins. Don't think we'll beat either of those teams. The rest is a pretty fair projection though. I'll be posting mine later this week.

If you call it pretty fair, at least I don't feel like I was completely bonkers. :yes:

As far as Baylor & Colorado, I teetered on both of those.

Baylor: I think we'll knock off a B12 team at Hilton that we shouldn't —*it was among BU, Missouri and KSU for me. I felt BU was the "least unlikely" of those three. (I didn't counter that with a Big 12 home loss that we ought to get, or a near-win that slips away).

CU: Seems to be a lot of hype for Colorado getting a tournament bid, so I could see getting swept by the Buffs. For me it was a coin-flip whether ISU could split that one and sweep Nebraska, or just beat both at home.

They are more talented than us for sure. But I could see this happening if we get a good start and the players start feeding off the "Magic". If you want to pinpoint a game that we could win and would be considered an upset at home, with the attrition at Baylor I'm thinking more and more that we might have a chance at that one.

I think we beat CU. And we'll lose to Cal. Iowa will be a win (big for Freddy's first year). No way we come close to Baylor.

I don't expect the basketball team to do a whole lot in year one of Freddie at the helm.

But I just ask that this team be competitive in games. Especially in conference games. If you lose, okay. But give an effort and be competitive.

Northern Arizona W 1-0 --> a win against a decent Big Sky team
Alabama State W 2-0
Drake W 3-0 --> the Bulldogs will be tough, but Hilton Magic saves the day
v Creighton L 3-1
Kennesaw State W 4-1
Montana State W 5-1 --> this game will be close against a Big Sky favorite
@ Northern Iowa L 5-2
California L 5-3 --> W, 6-2 UCal is way down this year, lost 80% of scoring, rebounding, & their starting PG from last season
SE Missouri State W 6-3 --> W, 7-2
@ Iowa L 6-4 --> W, 8 -2, a close game as the Hawks and Clones are evenly matched, but I'll take DG over SUI's PG.
Texas Southern W 7-4 --> W, 9-2
Dartmouth W 8-4 --> W, 10-2
Chicago State W 9-4 --> W, 11-2
@Virginia L 9-5 --> W, 12-2, possible first road win as UVa is picked for dead last in ACC.
Northern Illinois W 10-5 --> W, 13-2
@ Nebraska L 10-6, 0-1 --> L, 13-3/0-1, maybe a win on the road, it's Nebraska after all
Kansas L 10-7, 0-2 --> L, 13-4/0-2
Baylor W 11-7, 1-2 --> L, 13-5/0-3, L if Dunn is playing, possible W if he's not.
@Okla. State L 11-8, 1-3 --> L, 13-6/0-4
@Missouri L 11-9, 1-4 --> L, 13-7/0-5
Texas Tech W 12-9, 2-4 --> W, 14-7/1-5, possible win against a Big 12 second division team
Oklahoma W 13-9, 3-4 --> W, 15-7/2-5, a should win at home.
@Colorado L 13-10, 3-5 --> L, 15-8/2-6
Kansas State L 13-11, 3-6 --> L, 15-9/2-7
@Kansas L 13-12, 3-7 --> L, 15-10/2-8
@Texas A&M L 13-13, 3-8 --> L, 15-11/2-9
Missouri L 13-14, 3-9 --> L, 15-12/2-10
@Texas L 13-15, 3-10 --> L, 15-13/2-11
Nebraska W 14-15, 4-10 --> W, 16-13/3-11
Colorado W 15-15, 5-10 --> W, 17-13/4-11
@Kansas State L 15-16, 5-11 --> L, 17-14/4-12

Big 12 finish: 10th

I took your projections and added my own on the right of the arrow. We're fairly close, but I think conference play will be tougher compared to the non-conference than what you're predicting. I just believe the Clones non-conference schedule is filled with cupcakes this year.

On the road...
You realize Iowa is in worse shape than us right? Plain and simple your predictions are uneducated guesses.

They're guesses, but I wouldn't call it uneducated.

This team will lose some games it could win, or ought to win. The team could also pull off one or two upsets.

ISU should be able to beat Iowa this season — both programs are starting from scratch. But that could be a game that's winnable, but ends up going the other way. If the game were at home, I'd have gone with a W.

Not saying you are right or wrong, but what are you basing this off of?

Couple of things:
1) Iowa has 63% of their scoring back this year, ISU has 29%

2) The game is in Iowa City

I wouldn't say Iowa is starting from scratch, they bring back 4 of their 5 starters from a year ago. Yes they are starting from scratch with a new system, but they have a lot more experience coming back this year then ISU does.

If Iowa wins the 2 games they lost to start the year last year (and they have no reason to be losing those games, major reason why Lick is gone) they end up with only 2 less wins then ISU had last year. I'm not sure why people think Iowa is so much worse then ISU, yes ISU is probably better but to say ISU should win isn't right IMO, these teams aren't as far apart as people think, they might be next year when all the transfers for ISU can play, but not this year.

Not really. Baylor is 0-for-Hilton. I've been calling this one also.
