Re: Babb, Long, and Lucious

Watched the last two games last night. Babb impresses me more and more. He seems to be in great shape and even stronger than last year. He also seems to have a toughness about him. If I'm in an alley fight and could pick only one Cyclone to help me, it would be him. He is really aggressive at times, but he stays in control and seems really smart, making good passes, making cuts, giving direction on the floor, and even knowing what to say (and not say) when the refs make bad calls.

Naz Long is also impressing me. He has a tremendous court presence, both on offense and defense. He always seems to be thinking about the extra thing that could help the situation (pressuring the ball as they bring it upcourt, seeing a play develop, and calling out instructions). He also is tough, always trying to smother someone on defense, and seems always to have something to say. It remains to be seen if he can keep his aggressiveness and mouthiness under control. Lucious didn't play tonight, but he seems to have a similar aggressiveness, but with more experience in keeping it under control.

I really like the attitudes and approach to the game from Babb, Lucious, and Long. I hope that Babb and Lucious will help make sure that Long doesn't let himself get out of control. These guys seem to bring a seriousness to the game (and probably to practice) that forces everyone around them to work harder (or get really annoyed). Hoiberg must have seen their toughness when he was recruiting them and obviously knew how to manage it with Babb last year. Can't wait to see Lucious (and Long) on the floor for Big 12 games.

Something tells me that he is realizing that it's his senior year. If he wants a chance to make it to the next level, he cant lose his shot next season when he is put on a tough defender. If he can shoot in conference the way he did to start the season last year, he could get drafted. 6'5" sharp shooter with good defense is always a good option, just has to be consistent. Oh, and he needs to become better on the dribble. His handles are very suspect.

Babb has no shot at getting drafted in the NBA IMO. Serious stretch by you.

Patch.com kinda got screwed being the 1 seed and having to play the semi's at 545 and if they win they play the championship game directly after at 7.

Late in first half of game 1. Peak Performance blew a 17 pt lead, now only up 2. Bubu ******** at the refs. Percy missed first 10 mins, checks in and drains a 3.

Game 1 goes to Peak Performance, 83-72. *Capital Ortho hung tough. Play of the game was a nice ally-oop pass McBeth threw up which Gibson slammed home with one hand. *Alex Dorr was lighting it up from deep for Peak. *Entertaining game. *McBeth was playing hard. *The guys seemed to be playing with a greater sense of purpose with a trip to the championship on the line.

Wow, game 2 is really exciting and up tempo. Starting out as a shoot out between Naz Long and Tyrus McGee. Both playing 110%. Long's leadership skills really showing; he's very vocal (and kind of funny) tonight. Very impressive!

Game 2 goes to Patch.com, 114-97. *Drake's Richard Carter blew the game open in the 2nd half with 4 treys in a row, and 7 or 8 overall. *I can't say enough good about Naz Long's game in a losing effort. *I felt bad for Okoro. *There seemed to be a lid on the basket for him tonight, as he missed several layups and dunks. *The crowd felt bad too. *He hit a 3 late and the crowd went wild. *McGee is such a stud. *Can't wait to see him with a bigger role this season. *Patch and Peak face off for the championship next.

There are a couple people taking pics. I'm sure Patch.com will have some pics. Haven't seen any local TV here. I've tried taking some with my iPhone, but the quality just isn't there.

Niang starting strong for Patch in game 3. Dorr and Carter still hitting from deep.

Peak leads Patch 55-52 at half. Peak pulled away in this one, and was up 14. Niang led a great comeback down the stretch. He's hitting on all cylinders right now. McGee is so fast! He had a couple layups during the comeback too.

Very exciting championship game went to the wire. Patch gets the win, 99-96. Niang and McGee played great for Patch. Sad to see the season end. Won't get to see the guys play again for months...
