I was thinking about this last night...Mac has offered the following recruits during or before their freshman year of high school: Paige, Staten, Barnes, Dykstra, Gessell, Zeller(UNC)...Help me if I'm missing anybody. It appears to me that the guys we're offering early are turning into very nice players.

Paige and Staten are somewhat unknowns but you can't argue with the quality of the rest of that group.

Since we are getting Staten does that close the door on Paige? I know they are both PG's but how do these two compare and will there be room for both?

True...I think Zeller was actually late soph. Staten is the real deal...I know they were super excited about him.

Knew this question was coming...Paige is so smart with the basketball, I can't see us just giving up. I just wish he would grow a couple inches. We are going to continue to recruit him, but I'm not sure where he sits now.

I think it's more of a moral wrong, where coaches are pressuring 14 year olds to make college decisions.

Staten wasn't pressured at all.

I agree that 14 is young. Even if the NCAA forbids offers at that age it won't make any difference.

I read an article that Staten was already 6'1 and expected to keep growing. Wonder if Staten might grow out of being a PG and into being a great ball handling wing?

Staten can grow into a 2 guard with PG skills while Paige is a PG all the way. There'sa room for both.

My question is would we honor all three 2012 offers now or only take 2? Isn't Gesell 6 footish as well?

Yeah, I was hoping at least one would grow...That would be a pretty good backcourt. We have some time, so just keep your fingers crossed. Maybe Paige could sleep hanging by his feet

Statten is a 6 foot 1 inch kid his freshman year of high school. My guess is he grows some more and ends up not playing point. That is where Marcus Paige comes in. That is what I hope anyway.

Care to put money on this? I'll put up 50 bucks that says he won't be a McDAA.

Trying to bet a 14 year old is probably against the law.

I'd be very surprised if an early commit Iowa player makes it in the top 25. Shocked actually.

Which is why I would love to throw down money on it.

Not that I don't want him to be a hell of a player, I just don't see any way you could think he'll be a Top 25 guy 4 years from now.

There were multiple posters on this board several years ago stating Harrison Barnes would be top 25....just saying.

Zeller was another example...Ended up 16, I think. But it is hard to climb the rankings after you commit because you don't get the big boy offers.

So you think because he gave a verbal to ISU at age 14 that other teams won't offer or continue to recruit him, even if he ends up as a McDAA-type player?

I don't think anybody is that naive but a lot of the offers won't be public and it will be hush-hush because he's already committed.

They do try, but if it is a solid, which in this case it does appear to be...Staten's coaches, parents, and himself usually say no thanks...I realize it's not on paper.

I realize there is always excitement getting a new verbal, but does anyone find it a little troubling getting verbals from a 14 year olds?

I don't know what is more troubling, the fact that he gave us a verbal or the fact that 3 other teams had already shown interest.
