Holy ****. If you didn't watch the end of the game tonight you missed something magical. 7 run bottom of the 9th. Second Dozier walk-off in 5 games.

And dude didn't make the ASG.

Got home last night. Checked the score and it was 6-1 in the top of the 9th. Next thing I knew I was reading a tweet that Dozier hit a walk off. Crazy. Honestly, a really huge win to stay ahead of Detroit and right in the thick of the wildcard.

And last night is exactly why I will never leave a sporting event early.

Call me a cynic, but I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. The thing that's carried the Twins so far has been unusually good starting pitching...and the scary part is that all of the Twins' starters is currently performing above their career average (seriously, every single one has a better WHIP and ERA, and most have better K/9 and K/BB).

Many people look at that and say "the good times can't last". May and even Gibson are both young enough for this not to be as big of a concern, but chances are that at least one or two of the Twins' starters will regress to the mean in the second half, which could eat into the standings cushion.

Of course it could. And I still don't think the Twins will make the playoffs. But you might as well enjoy it. Being an Iowa State fan and a Twins fan pretty much means that you need to enjoy the good times because why spend your entire life miserable. They've managed to make the half way point of the season in the wildcard and division hunt.

For past several seasons, I had long ceased following the Twins at all.

Been 30 years since they've won their division, could be the time.
Huh? May want check your facts.

Yeah, the twins have overachieved so far this season, but fortunately they don't take away credit for games that shouldn't have been won, but were. The most intriguing thing about this is that reinforcements are on the way without even making any mid season trades. Sano has been a huge lift, Santana came back from suspension to add some depth to the rotation. May was moved to the bullpen in spite of doing quite well as a starter and can go back into the rotation if others regress to the mean.
That said, I don't think they will make the playoffs.

Twins win again! Hunter had a monster home run (3rd deck) and a pretty good catch in the 9th. I was excited he came back, but I didn't think he would be at all helpful. But he really has had a positive impact on the team.

Congrats to Dozier -- he should never have even made it this far. He's out homered Bautista as a 2nd basemen and Bautista is playing in a bandbox in Toronto.

Much of the widespread success of the Twins pitching this year has to be credited to the hiring of Neil Allen as pitching coach. He arrived with a solid reputation of developing young pitchers at the minor league level and is demonstrating that he knows what he is doing at the major league level. The Twins should be able to continue to compete with pitching under the guidance of Allen. It is a refreshing change from the approach of Rick Anderson over the past several years - pitch to contact (see how far they can hit it).

If you listen closely, you just might be able to hear the sound of the window closing on this era of the Detroit Tigers.

They better shake something up to make a run in the second half because after that they aren't exactly lined up with the fast track going forward.
