NWB with the clutch dunk play to tie the game with 12 seconds left on the clock. Sweet.

Surprised to see it was that close considering it looks like they were playing Babb and a few smurfs against Lard and Shayok.

Lard is going to play a lot if anything simply because he's non stop energy who loves to rebound the ball and that is what we need. He's got good hands inside and more than a capable scorer inside and on put backs...but he has a knack for timing his jump right to rebound. Not to mention he's just a freshman

Sooo... a position of need. Strongly agree. Solomon can't play every minute.

So we have people on here saying Lewis will end up starting this year at some point over Babb due to watching CCL highlights? WOW.... it must be summer.

I'm not saying it can't happen, but NWB knows he's being counted on as "the guy" this year. Do you think he might just be taking it a bit easy in the CCL? I doubt he cares much about this league, and that's a good thing. I doubt Prohm even wants him playing in it.

If Lewis ends up starting over NWB at some point, that's fine, but please don't make the stupid mistake of making that statement from watching one minute video clips of the CCL.

you can get an idea if a player is going to be pretty good from watching the CCL. You can't pay attention to how many points some one is scoring, but if you watch how a guy moves, his court vision, athletic ability, his motor and stuff like that. For example, when under recruited Wesley Johnson showed up, he looked so good. He wasn't scoring a lot of points right away, but he was so graceful in everything he did, you would question how was this guy only a 2 star? From watching this year, it looks like Lard is going to be a good player at this level at some point. He has a lot of basketball skills or a 6'9 guy. Handles the ball wall, above average passing ability for a guy his size and extreme athleticism. IMO, he has the skills to start, but the question is, is he mentally ready and will he do what the coaches ask him to do.

How was Lard in terms of physical condition? Was he able to go full strength for multiple plays in a row? Or was he taking plays off? I love what he does and want him to be in physical condition to go hard for 20 minutes if needed.

Agreed. Don't pay too much attention to stats, because the competition is bad.

However watching a big man dribble or, or gauging a player's quickness, length, etc are difinitley possible.

Our freshman have a lot to learn and they will no doubt make mistakes. It will be interesting to see how CSP handles that. Does he let them play through it or does he limit their minutes until they minimize their mistakes. This will be especially true with Lard, given his high school career and the lack of organized ball. I could see him do some really great things to only turn around and make some bonehead plays. All these guys should really grow this year, we will need to be patient.

He played the entire game and never looked too tired.

Just a guess based on observation, but I think he'll let them play through their mistakes so long as it's not killing us in the +/- while they're in there. Seemed like Solomon played a lot longer when we were staying even or increasing the lead, but got pulled a couple times earlier in the year when we were giving up easy buckets inside, but not getting them back on the other end.

I think he will have to let them play through their mistakes more. We don't have all the upperclassman that we had last year. It just makes me wonder, because CSP was really cautious with Solomon the first half of the season. He basically didn't really let him play significant minutes until all the other bigs played themselves out of playing time. This team, due to the lack of experience, will be so much different for CSP. In some ways, I think he will like it.

Y Cap City Semi-Finals/Fan Appreciation Night - Thursday 7/20 - Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny

5:30 #1 Doerrfeld (Young, Lewis) vs. #5 Hinterland (Jackson)
6:45 Dunk Contest, 3 point shoot out
8:00 #2 Lions Club (Beverly? Wigginton?) vs. Sparta (Shayok, Lard)

Going to be a fun night in Ankeny. Sounds like Beverly is a yes at this point (disclaimer: don't take that as a 100% lock until you see him in the gym) and Wigginton is an unknown. Good chance to judge for yourself how good Lard really is.

Games on Sunday were both very competitive with one going double OT and the other a one possession game at the buzzer. Should be more of the same on Thursday. Dunk contest, etc is always a good time.
