Shayok had 52 tonight. Means nothing, but I'm really high on that 2018-19 team. Shayok is going to be a beast. Add in Wiggy and Young and the pieces are there for a tourney run.

Now 2017-18 will be really ugly to get there ...

I agree about Shayok, but I'm not closing the door on 17-18, as there is a lot of talent on this team. Lots of new faces that will need to find a way to gel, but a lot of talent too.

Looking at the box scores I was intrigued by 2019 target Tyreke Locure putting up 19 points on 8-11 shooting. Obviously still early in the process for him but being around and playing with/against ISU guys at events like this can't hurt our chances.

My take on last night:
- Shayok was obviously the star of the show. Scored in a variety of ways and showed he can finish with authority with some highlight-reel dunks.
- Jackson was forcing it most of the night. Ended up with 47 but took 41 shots. He's a known commodity for us and will be better than that most nights.
- Babb was Babb. Showed up late but had 9/11/9 for a near triple double in less than 2/3 of the game.
- Jacobson was better than expected. Played really hard, shooting stroke looks good out to 3 point range, aggressive rebounder, very competitive. A little bit of Homan in his attitude -- and that is a compliment.
- League overall: Probably as much talent top to bottom in the Y Cap City league in a long time. Several Drake guys had stellar nights lead by DeTae McMurray with 41 on 17-24 shooting. Reed Timmer was very good. Ore had a fun battle with Jackson and put up 50+. Wali Parks (DMACC/IC West) had 34 and showed off a big personality to go with his game. Tyreke Locure, Jr from North, more than held his own against older players. Jordan Stotts (NBL Canada) was solid. List goes on. And yes I know the Iowa State guys are who we all want to see. Point is that once guys like Young, Lewis, Lard, Matt Tiby (WIs-Milwaukee/European pro) and some other guys get on the court the games should be even better.

Apparently there was some miscommunication on his availability. Playing on Sundays not Thursday (but stay tuned, as always everything is subject to change).

I pretty much agree with all of this. I'll emphasize that Jacobson looked a lot better than expected. Very aggressive on the boards and definitely outplayed Drake's Kyle Kuenstling (6'10). I did think he was a little too timid when he had the ball in his hands.

The depth of talent in the open round guys is off the charts this year. In years prior, spotty ISU attendance turned the games into a total mess, but even with only a couple Iowa State guys there last night, you hardly noticed a hit in quality of play. You usually had to count on an ISU on ISU matchup for there to be any resistance. The quality of the others will be really good for giving our guys a challenge and providing them value, plus some entertainment while the Cyclones are out.

We joke about the Cap City League having no defense, but I remember it being the first place that I ever saw Naz Long. It was memorable because he was playing such tough defense and getting lots of guys mad at him. Naz was great. From Day 1.

I remember him going head to head against Korie Lucious and it was intense. Lucious still had like 40 points.

I wasn't aware that ccl played in Ankeny on Thursdays and only went to the Southwoods games last year. Ankeny is closer to me. I may have misunderstood, but stansbury's article says the first game of ccl was in wdm. Please confirm scheduled locations.

Parks from DMACC is an interesting guy to me. Had a nice freshman season averaging about 16 ppg. Super athletic and has good size for a perimeter player. Would have had a lot more offers out of HS if he had his academics straight. To me he's someone to keep an eye on for 2018.

This is the first year some games are in Ankeny. Just find a schedule and it will tell when the games are in Ankeny and when they are in West Des Moines.

I fairly certain they haven't been in Ankeny the last few years at least. Here's the schedule. It states where the games are. capcity2017sched.jpg

Games on 6/22, 6/29 and 7/20 are at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny.

Have always played in WDM so this is something new.

Thanks for uploading those highlights I'm sure I'm not alone in enjoying them. I really love the slashing ability of Shayok he's going to be a good asset to have when he becomes eligible. Good stuff from Jacobson as well. TLew seems like he's going to blow up as he fills out his frame.
