Another lights out night by Romero. Hopefully he can keep it up to offset all the money they are paying Hughes, who might not show much at all this year, again.

The Twins need to send Hughes to AAA and if he refuses DFA him like the Mets just did with Matt Harvey

I was impressed with Romero last night. It's tough to face a guy that has essentially no scouting info available but the Cards never looked comfortable in the box against him all night.

Now, making Odorizzi look like Cy Young on the other hand...

Congrats on the sweep.

Buxton could be back any day now (and we could really use him against the Angels!), plus we still have Santana waiting in the wings, along with Polanco. Sano, I'm not so sure....someone needs to tell him to lay off the donuts.

I fully expect to see him any time now with a Krispy Kreme endorsement.

Will we see the return of one of the hardest sweeping curves tonight? Hoping Berrios can make it three in a row for the Twins over the Cards.

Great outing by Berrios tonight. Man when his stuff is working he’s damn near unhittable. Just needs to learn to battle through those nights when it’s not working the best and gain a bit more consistency.

BaReeeeeeOhs! Two soft hits, 10 Ks, total command.
With him and Romero it's going to fun to see what the Twins' two young phenoms will do this year.

I was at the game last night and was wondering what pitch he was throwing (Cards fan living in MSP but don't really follow the Twins closely). Our seats were behind home plate in the upper deck. All I could see were Cards hitters going after a pitch that looked like it was 6-12" off the plate all the time. I assumed it was some nasty pitch he was throwing.

As a Cards fan, I wasn't the least bit surprised last night. Gregerson is garbage. When it was 1-1 and they brought him in, I told him my wife "this guy is our worst reliever." Lo and behold he held up to his rep. I couldn't believe he gave up a HR to a guy hitting .077 and that looks like he belongs in beer league softball.

When his breaking balls are on, he is virtually unhittable. Not to mention he has a 2 seam that moves about 4-7 inches the other way, also. If he can get more consistent, he is as good as it gets imo.

breaking balls

Fastball movement, even if its a ball, still insane

I didn't get to see much of last night's game but Berrios was impressive, much like Romero last week. No doubt these guys have good stuff but at no point do the Cards ever seem to make them uncomfortable. If young guys can pitch relaxed, they'll usually pitch well.

Aside from Pham, and maybe DeJong and Gyorko, the Cards don't have anybody going well enough right now to make anybody break a sweat.

Good luck today. Starting to smell a little skunky in the Cards clubhouse.

Agreed. I can think of one or two hard hit balls night (Kelly to the track, and Martinez's opposite field shot that Kepler caught at the wall). Otherwise, the Cards offense was absent last night. Cardinals have feasted on beating up bad teams this year (See: Reds, Cincinnati).

Carpenter and Fowler are both hitting below .150 and they are supposed to be the drivers of the offense. Ozuna has hit ok, but hasn't been that feared pop they acquired him for. The relievers have been pretty bad and the starters nothing to write home about. Couple that with a manager who consistently mis-manages the bullpen, and you have a recipe for an October vacation. [End of rant]

We just get Buxton back, and we're close on Sano, and then we hear Castro is lost for the year. Big loss but a big opportunity for the young Garver.

With five starting position players and one starting pitcher out, the Twins are struggling to keep their head above water.
The next week or so wil be tough. Need our starters and bullpen to keep things close until Sano, Mauer, and Buxton get back to full strength.

Twins are going to eat $22 million to release Phil Hughes. Too bad, but with all of his injuries they had no choice. Twins gambled and lost.
