Dundon made his bones in the subprime auto market.

He is quite literally a used car salesman. Or worse -- the guy who sells you the loan for it.

I know the Alliance needed money, but the writing was on the wall when he came in.

Is it possible for someone to buy him out to keep this thing going? I have no clue how the AAF is structured.

If they want people to actually watch, they need to put it after March Madness.

A second football league's only real chance of survival is to be played in a dead sports window. Starting up right after the Super Bowl neither played off the appetite for more football nor gave it a good chance to draw interest against other sporting events. An April-June window would have allowed them to find more markets that might actually care, not compete against one of the two most popular sporting events in the country, and have given enough time off that people were just starting to get itchy for football.

There is only a limited window between the end of the NCAA tournament and the start of the NBA playoffs. You have the NFL draft in there to worry about, too.

The sports calendar is pretty-well divided up at this point, unfortunately. The gap between the NBA Finals and football starting in late August/early September is too short.

The NBA was smart to creep the playoffs more and more into the spring/summer dead time.

I still believe an NFL minor league can happen Getting game reps for guys who are otherwise not ready for Sundays, and undrafted players getting to showcase skills as a pro can be a big benefit to improving the quality of play on the NFL field even more.

I thought the AAF had a shot because so many people associated with the NFL were participating from the start, but being separate from it would allow them to innovate much more. We saw some of that, but without Roger Goodell's protective embrace, it proved to be tough sledding.
