Ball was fumbled/kicked forward past LOS before any of the zaniness wasn't it?

Snap from the 25.
Fumbled.
Kicked backward by TCU at the 23.
Picked up at the 20 by an OL.
Pitched backward to the RB, who threw a forward pass from the 16 (9 yards behind LOS).

Just because the announcers have a conniption about a penalty doesn't mean there was a penalty. 90% of the time, they don't know the rules on anything beyond a "regular" penalty.

Except as others have noted, the skycam showed he hit with his shoulder not his helmet. The regular broadcast just didnt show that angle to stick to their narrative.
Maybe that's true, but then I'd like to see that video because I haven't seen it anywhere (did a cursory search on Twitter and Reddit). Certainly every other angle looks to me like the defender hit with the crown of his helmet between the nameplate and base of the ball carrier's helmet.

If targeting is just lowering the head and leading with the head to any part of the body.... then you could go back through that game and find about 30 other targeting calls that weren't called or looked at in the booth. Because the replay clearly showed he lead with the crown of his helmet, but he hit him in the back of the shoulder pads, not head or neck. If that is targeting by rule, then they need to stop these games about 30-40 times to look at these hits.... it happens all the time.

I've already seen 10 or so in this Peach Bowl game too then. Why isn't the game stopped for every one of these like they did at the end of the TCU game?

That's what bugs me.... is targeting only looked at when it's the end of the game and the outcome is on the line? There are tons of 'targeting's' in every game.

Iirc it was picked up, lateraled, then passed forward which by that time I think would have been a penalty.

Had they called targeting, and forward lateral gets called, I'd like to know if there was any sort of offsetting there and where the ball ends up getting placed.

Except there's not really any extra money from the CFP for making the championship game.

From the CFP, the Big 12 will get (approximately):
*$74M for basically just being a P5 conference
*$3M for all teams meeting APR guidelines
*$6M for TCU making the semis
*$4M for KSU making an NY6 bowl
*$5.5M to cover expenses for TCU's semi and finals appearance

Directly from the CFP manual:
"There will be no additional distribution to conferences whose teams qualify for the national championship game."
But the way you are talking you dont even want teams to get the the playoffs, you want them to lose every bowl, you want every team to lose every game and suck if they arent ISU. That would be terrible for ISU and for the Big 12. That would put the Big 12 in a horrible position and we would be a dead conference. We want to go out and win everything at every turn. So every win ISU has looks even better, and every spotlight gets turned on the conference as being a power, any way possible.

So then when ISU beats someone they beat a ranked team. So next year the Big 12 gets in the playoff, gets that extra pay, instead of none. and so on.

OK, I thought it was fumbled past line. You are probably right.

I don't know who you think you're responding to, but I never said any of that.

There's a common misconception that the title game is worth some sort of super bonus to the conference. It's worth $0.

I only check it once a day or so, but their are a handful of posters who are sick of the status quo. Franisdaman is the dumbest poster overtheir.

Once again ISU's finances are not my problem to worry about so I am not going to worry about them. I get the money of this helps ISU but that's not my concern.

No matter what conference or level ISU is in I am still going to be a fan and cheer for them.

You guys don't think that Bama and UGA being powerhouses every year doesn't negatively affect other teams in their conference?

Hell some of the people with are disagreeing with me are the first ones to freak out when ISU does bad (see clonedude for example).
So, we should hope that teams in our conference never make the national scene? So when we beat them it really doesn't matter because everyone is just different levels of sucky?

I think we need some of our teams to rise to the top, so when we beat them, we have done something.

If Georgia and Alabama weren't dominating the national championships, we'd never hear about the SEC. Clemson, pretty much single handedly keeps the ACC in the picture.

I kind of agree with you, ideally, I don't want any one Big 12 team to be our only hope. I want a different team in the National Championship hunt every year. Otherwise, everyone who matters writes off your accomplishments, just like they short your pay. And then you lose relevance. And in the present world $ and relevance / rep are very important.

Kids might come to ISU to play against the great Big 12 teams that are all the rage because of all the national championships that are brought back to the Big 12.

We should root for a spread of Big 12 teams to reach championships in every sport to prove we, as a conference, belong.
