Essex announces Friday, Gaines on Saturday, Adams on the 28th. CB's are all to ISU. If we get all 3, we are at 17 and only have one open spot for now according to CW number...who do we take? Or do we not take Adams if getting the other 2?

Xavier Townsend and a DB seem like the biggest needs. not sure where Tawfiq Thomas and Dom Orange fall after the Deyo pickup.

Warm:
RB Quaron Adams: Arizona, ISU 9/28/20; 6/11/21-6/13/21
APB Xavier Townsend: ISU, Louisville, UCF, Vanderbilt 2/25/21; 6/4/21-6/6/21
WR Greg Gaines III: Indiana, ISU, KSU, MD +8; 12/10/19; 6/4/21-6/6/21
WR Jason Essex: Colorado, ISU, UK 4/27/20; 6/4/21-6/6/21
ILB Matt Rose: ISU 8/29/20; 6/11/21-6/13/21
CB Greg Delaine: ISU 7/30/20; 6/11/21-6/13/21; 6/11/21-6/13/21
S D'angelo Hutchinson: ISU 10/13/20; 6/11/21-6/13/21
ATH Idris Williams: ISU, UConn 5/2/19

High:
DL Tawfiq Thomas: ISU +11; 1/29/20; 6/11/21-6/13/21
DL Domonique Orange: 4/19/20

They've moved on from Domonique Orange.

I think Essex, Gaines, Adams and Townsend will all be Cyclones.

I don't know how to read Matt Rose. Just from reading interviews, I get the feeling he wants to make it own path, and not follow in Mike's footsteps. I hope I'm wrong and they can find a place for him.
Also not sure about Tawfiq. I'm a big fan of his but it kinda feels like Deyo took his spot.

I think the staff will want 18-19 to sign this fall. There's always attrition after the season, so very likely a couple spots open up for them to go after someone in the spring, high school or transfer.

Looking at the number of “real” seniors, I have a suspicion that “15-18” is already accounting for attrition.

I hope we get both Essex and Gaines. They are both really good. Adams and Townsand are similar players, but boy they are electric. It would hard to not take them both. I think it would also be hard to say no to Thomas, but numbers may not allow us to take him. Plus I think we really need to get a CB. It is fun to have so many great possibilities. The next few weeks should be really fun. I think kids are going to fill the pressure to commit to programs because spots may be more limited this year.

The Hunter Deyo article quotes him as saying that he’s willing to play OL if defense doesn’t work out.

what do you mean because spots may be more limited in programs? Because of the players that stayed an extra year due to Covid?

The issue is that teams don't know what players will return for 2022 and use their Covid year. As mentioned, the total number of players allowed in 2022 is not increased from the 85 limit pre Covid. This has to affect recruiting for 2022 unless the NCAA changes the 85 player limit. Teams may not have spots for kids if they wait too long.
