I honestly like going to minor league games more than mlb games.
The minors or your local semi pro team has an experience that is largely drastically underrated on a warm summer night.

Hope this happens which I'm sure it means that it won't:

"Major League Baseball wants to institute a 14-second pitch clock with the bases empty and a 19-second timer with runners on, according to sources familiar with the situation.

The two numbers were settled on after experiments in the minor leagues, including in low-A in 2021, in which game times were cut by about 20 minutes. The minor leagues used 15-second and 17-second clocks, but MLB determined less time was needed for pitchers with the bases empty and more time with them occupied, according to sources, hence landing on 14/19.

The desire for a clock comes after years of increasing game times, culminating last season, when the average length of a nine-inning game was a record 3 hours, 10 minutes. That's 20 minutes longer than just a decade ago, when the average length was 2:50.

Games in Low-A West last year were reduced from 3:02 to 2:41 with the clock. There have been some mixed results with pitch clocks at different levels of professional baseball, but the league believes it can only help speed up the big league product."

They’re also hoping to implement bases that are 1 inch bigger. Between that and a countdown, I think you’d see a lot more stolen bases

That's fine with me. I'm also fine with changing the rules on shifts a bit as well.

I’m torn on the shift. Shift = more outs because hitters suck = faster game. But I hate seeing fun guys get screwed because of it.

Can’t tell you how many liners I’ve seen up the middle that are caught by a guy standing behind second base. Those hitters shouldn’t be punished for doing something they’ve trained to do their entire careers.

Leave the shift alone. Professional players today should be able to bunt for a free base when nobody is playing within 40 ft of third base. They refuse/can't do it.
Rod Carew would hit .500 if they tried to use the shift on him.

Not when pitchers can put it inside at 100 mph every time like most can do nowadays. Easier said than done

The problem is the game needs action. Shifting takes away action. Not saying ban it but put some rules on it. 2 fielders in each side of second base. Keep them from being directly behind the base. Outfield can still shade to left or right.

Man, I’m torn. Like forever in baseball something like this happens in the field and the offense adjusts to take advantage of it. It’s part of the game and it’s always been part of the game.

The problem though, is I think it will take a whole new generation of players coming up that have spent their formative years hitting to beat the shift. That will take years that baseball simply doesn’t have. It needs desperate help to improve the game NOW. Manfred is a clown, but this might be necessary to start attracting casual fans again.

I get the “why” to the changes but I have a lot of “get off my lawn” feelings towards them.
