We could play Colorado in a bowl game? What am I missing?

For 2024 and 2025 (the last two years of the existing contracts), the Pac-12 bowls can still select ex-Pac 12 schools.

Since the Alamo is Big 12 vs. Pac-12, there could theoretically be two current Big 12 teams in that game.

Woah... that's wild. I didn't realize that wrinkle existed. Gve me Wazzu again, that'd be more fun. They would actually care about being there. I would have to think since Deion's team will either have guys prepping for the draft or since his rosters change over so much every year, they would be a shell of themselves if we played them.

It sucks, but bowl games are dead. It's playoff or bust now.
Oh don't worry. All those G5 teams will ball out and give it 110%, while their P4 opponent is missing 3 key players and dgaf. Will make for great trips to Shreveport, Boise, et al.

The Alamo Bowl folks would probably wet themselves over the chance to have:
11-1 Iowa State
10-2 Colorado
likely both in the Top 15
Big 12 #3 vs Big 12 #4
old Big 8 rivalry
Deion

For the Big 12/old Pac 12 bowl game scenarios can we use KSU instead of us? ;)

I only want to think of situations where we are in the playoffs.

I don’t get the desire to have K-State lose until we play them. We pretty much have to win out to make the CCG game anyway.

With the way the tiebreakers are shaking out vs BYU and CU, we’re likely out of the CCG regardless if K-State has 1 or 2 losses and they beat us. So, we might as well have them be the highest-ranked team they can be to help our at-large chances.

Same with BYU too. I doubt they lose twice prior to the B12 championship with their remaining schedule. So, might as well have them win out so we have a top-10 opponent if we play them in the champ game.

We definitely want CU to lose again though. They won’t be ranked high enough to be a top 10 loss if they make the conf championship imo, so a loss in that game would hurt us more than a potential loss to BYU.

They need to drop all conference affiliation and just go with the best matchups. Let the bowls select based on their payout.
I'd think this new age they should just pay the players in "NIL". According to this the Alamo bowl payout was $8,250,000 split it 50% to the schools 50% to players would end up being a $40,000 payout per player. Seems like a good deal.

I’ve always said, a bowl “draft” for matchups could be pretty interesting. Then pay the players for playing, and a bonus for winning, to keep the fringe NFLers from opting out. That would make them more compelling than they’re currently constructed

If we go 11-1 and end up in the Alamo Bowl that would kinda suck.

It would be a very Iowa State outcome though
Kind of? At this point, that would be the worst possible outcome/scenario, imo.

I can handle if we lose a couple and don’t deserve the ccg and playoff but to be 11-1 and miss out on both would be a gut punch.

If Colorado does not make the playoffs, Sanders and Travis Hunter will not be on the field for any bowl game Two top 5 picks (in addition to Deion, of course) is a lot of the draw for Colorado.

According to Kurtz, if BYU drops a game (say Utah), and KSU, BYU and ISU all end up 11-1, then ISU and KSU probably advance to the CCG due to third tiebreaker which is win % of conference opponents. KSU is currently just over 0.500, ISU is around 0.440 and BYU is around 0.320 (around 29:00 mark).

Yeah bowl games need to start paying the players. Not sure if it would be allowed or not but there should be a minimum payout for both teams and then the winning team should get an extra payout. I think that would encourage participation and make the bowl games mean something to the players.

Yep always cheer for the conference teams you’ve already beaten, especially once they are out of it. So Baylor’s uptick has helped.

I just read an article in The Athletic wherein the author indicates he now believes BYU will represent the Big XII in the playoffs. Other polls favor one-loss KSU to beat us and advance to the CCG. I love it - undefeated and still not getting much respect - CMC can use that national lack of belief in the Cyclones as bulletin board motivation! Let's go State!
