I live right in the prime viewing area. Many towns were told to expect thousands of visitors. Several have all kinds of activities planned. Banks were told to close because police were concerned they could not get to the banks during a robbery with the large crowds jamming the streets.

So far, it appears to be the second coming of Y2K.

There having ufo days this weekend here. I had a few places lined up to park, but once I was here they were not great so I checked the campgrounds and there was one spot available so I got it for $14. Someone must have canceled at the last moment and I lucked out.

Chicago is at ~95% totality. So I’ll just go outside during that time.

Man, maybe I should drive down. 5 hours to get to 100 seemed like a haul but 2 hours to go 86 to 95 may be worth it.......annnnnnnnd I have 4 hours of meetings today so I guess we'll stay here at my 86%.

Last time we had one the Loop was full of people on the street. People offering their glasses to take a look.

The school is doing nothing for the eclipse. I guess I understand that 2-4 year olds would want to look into the sun, but it seems like a wasted opportunity

There's also one in Alaska in 2097. I stopped prior to 2097 because those won't likely be relevant to most of us. However, if I manage to live 75 more years and never move, my house will be in totality in 2099.

I just gotta make it to 2099 and then I'll not even have to leave the house! Probably convenient because unless I make it to 111, I won't be moving from Madison anyway.

I would say a 2 hour drive to go from 86% to 95% is not worth it, as the difference would be minimal.
A 2 hour drive to go from 95% to totality would be worth it though.

We drove to KC in '17. It was pretty cool even though you only caught glimpses between the clouds. Quite the experience. We were going to hit St. Louis this weekend and drive a little south today to see it, but the weather didn't look promising so we didn't. We'll see what 86% in Iowa is like in comparison. Clear skies right now.

Anybody know if Wal-Mart or any other store still has glasses?
