The 60 Minutes story claimed Allegiant had some of the highest profit margins in the industry.

That was perhaps the most surprising part of the story for me.

They are cutting corners to make more money, not cutting corners to try and keep the business afloat.

Edit: I see @wxman1 made the same point so I am redundant.

Last time I flew with Allegient I had a terrible experience (approx 2014) They had to send a whole new plane for us after a 6 hour delay. I haven't flown since.

They are saying that shrapnel from the engine injured someone on board. Wondering if that is true. Somebody with a phone camera took a picture of an intact window with a view of the torn up engine. Surely they would have a picture of a broken window and shrapnel if it was there. My guess is that the "shrapnel" is a piece of the interior of the plane that broke loose.

It is hard to tell. This is the reason why there is no window at the seats that line up with the fan blades on most planes though.

Since we are discussing it here already...there has now been one fatality on today's SWA flight. This is the first fatality on a US Airline (Part 121) since 2009 when Colgan Air crashed in icing conditions in Buffalo.

Is this true? The entire engine structure is filled with blades that pull in and compress air...I'm not aviation expert but the whole housing is basically blades spinning and compressing/mixing air to push out the rear of engine. So if that was true you're talking about a good 5-6ft section that couldn't have windows.

Allegiant may very well have some issues, but these reports read and sound more like a smear campaign than they do investigative journalism. I'm skeptical.

Damn, they are down 20 pts since last week.. But this was a pretty disturbing report. Allegiant had better take action, or I would expect the business to suffer. I already hate flying with them, they are so rude, but at least I thought it was safe before. I will pay extra to fly to vegas on Southwest now.

Southwest huh?

Delta or bust, if the worst thing I have to do with them is connect through Hartsfield, I can deal. They have Yuengling at their bars and a Five Guys.
