If you had a point, I would expect the same reaction that I am getting here. Some agree some don't. But agree or disagree with me because of my points and not because of my affiliation. By the way our AD is a quivering panzy that has no balls. Just my two cents.
I'm not going to say anything about your AD. No way. That's you guy's (the Hawk's) area, not mine!:biglaugh:

PS-I disagree with your point.

Yep, you got it! Man, this is getting to be one long thread and how this "public" thing started was a long way back. It was between Frak and Hawk and Hawk basically said that he could come on here and say anything he wanted because it's a public forum.

Which is true he can say anything he wants within rule, but it is a privately owned public forumn.

Anyway... this reminds me of the conversation on Major League with the homerun.

It's too high! what do you mean its too high? I mean too hard! Too high, too hard, either way its outta here!

So would a car salesman tell a guy who comes in looking for cheap used Cavalier either buy a Cadillac or get the hell of my lot? Every fan starts somewhere whether it be buying a ticket here and there to buying an ISU t-shirt or whatever. Our e-mailing friend may be a poor 20 year old college student today but may be a rich business owner in 10-15 years. That guy you sold a Cavalier to may come back in five years and buy a $50,000 car. You don't know. So why alienate him?

Agreed. And doesn't every fan have the right to complain? I'm up on the fence on the whole McD issue right now, but there was a time when I was firmly against him continuing to coach here. That isn't the issue though.

If the email really was from JP, IMO it was a flippantly arrogant email that should really have been thought through more carefully before being sent. If not from JP, whatever media/comm. person sent it needs at the very least to have a stern talking to. With the current campaign to increase the number of donors starting up, right now is not the time for those type of emails. Also with a team that performed as poorly as ours, he should expect some negativity. Honestly, even if the team got to the national championship game and lost there would still be some calling for a new coach.

Your point about dissuading potential fans is really the one I would like to speak about. Even if he hasn't bought a ticket (or has only bought one), that still isn't a good reason to talk to him like that. I'm getting to the end of my fifth year here and getting ready to graduate, but in all my time at this school, only once did I ever have to buy a season ticket. Granted, this is because I was in band and got to go to everything for free (if you don't count the 600 or so dollars each year that taking the 'class' for band costs) but I still went to everything that I could. Perhaps the writer of the email was in a similar situation or was a cheerleader or something of that sort. Anyway I digress.

The point is that I am very shortly going to be graduating and my income will be increasing immensely. I am faced right now with the choice of how to spend that money, donating it to athletics and buying tickets, or not (of course if I am anywhere within 500 miles I would buy tickets, but the way things are looking, I will probably be in Louisiana either for work or grad school at LSU.) I'm sure though that there are many like me who will soon face the choice of buying tickets and/or donating to athletics for the first time. You really don't want to do anything to convince them that the athletics program is not where they want to be putting their money.

Everyone has the right to complain. But considering the quality and structure of the actual email, he was quite deserving of the response. Had you took went to the length which the kid did, (to actually write the letter) not only would your letter have been better structured, more accurate, made a case for your points, and been more reasonable in expressing your displeasure, Pollard's response likely would have been as well.

You can't really put yourself in the kid's shoes because you're maturity level is WAY above his.

Do you think Polllard's response was calm and level-headed? Do you think that's the way that the athletic director of a BCS school should respond to an angry fan, by saying that since you don't personally donate your opinion doesn't mean **** to me?

Pollard has had a rough week, and his claim that Mr. Rainey's email was the only one he received that had that kind of tone is laughable. I'm sure there were quite a few people on this board - donor and non-donor alike - who let Pollard know exactly what they're thinking, and the majority of what people were thinking was negative.

1) No

2) Agreed

I haven't argued against anything you have said. But this thread was about Matt Perrault's assertion that JP is claiming you have to donate to have an opinion (I know you suck at reading comprehension, but please, now is not the time), which simply isn't true. JP shouldn't have snapped back at the kid, it was unprofessional. That said, this email is NOT what the local media is making it out to be. End of story.

Again, all Pollard is saying is that if you're going to complain to me about what's going, you better be willing to actually do something about it. That's it. I know you want to make it bigger than it is, and I can't understand that. At least Perrault is bringing home more bacon because of it. I can't figure out your motives. I guess what ever brings you joy.

As a current ISU student I am pretty embarrassed by the message JP responded with. I am up to my eyeballs in debt paying for school and for my student tickets which keep getting more expensive. I truthfully would like to see the situation handled with more class.

If he had that much free time to write that e-mail he could have brought back baseball by now.

As a current ISU student, you're putting FAR more money into the university than Matt Rainey ever has.

I've never had an issue with JP (or one of his secretaries) responding to an e-mail and I'm a student. Your purchase of tickets gives you a voice.

How is free time going to bring back baseball? I doubt a second job is going to cover those expenses.

My real question to you is, as a student and not in position to donate any money to the athletic dept do you feel that you have the right to tell JP what to do with the money that others have donated? Because that's what the original emailer tried to do. You can be a fan without donating money. But if you are telling JP to spend $2.5 mil, then expect him to send the donation hat your way as well.

I personally think this whole thing got blown way out of proportion. The only problem I have with the whole thing is, Matt would just read the parts of the email that created fire on the air. I am about sick of tuning into As the World Turns, from 4 to 6 in the afternoons. Matt a couple pieces of advice, noone here cares about Creighton round ball, or where you have lived in the past. It really is sad because I really really like Ken Miller, hell I even like hearing him talk about the ponies. But he just gets some mediocre co-hosts.

I have zero problem owning up to stuff that I step in to. No problem at all. And I also don't have any problem explaining things like this.

I was not comfortable with this going on our page. Matt will verify that, as we exchanged a long IM last night. Steve will verify this, as I emailed him about it last night, and I spoke with him about it again this morning. After we chatted about it, I at least got to the point of being ambivalent about it being posted, and said it's his call, and he felt like it should go up.

As for contacting Jamie, we contacted him on Tuesday and gave him an every day invitation to come onto the show this week. He chose to decline, which is totally fine.

You and Deace are complete idiots get a life and keep off our board. Read your bible and pray for your hawks we do not want your post stirring comments on here. We laugh at your shallow life and drama.

I am not reading 55 pages. I will say that I support JP 100% based on the first page. You cannot compete without money. Everyone on this board that is employed full time should give something.

Most of the pages were not worth your time of day anyway. I see that the thread has been cleaned up a bit (maybe not), and that would be a good thing!

That's where customer relations break down. It's easy to build a "trust network" amongst donors and season ticket holders and assume they know what they're talking about. It's part of being a cognitive miser and not wasting too many resources. Then again, you are assume that someone who holds season tickets automatically knows what they're talking about. However, again, it's not always the case. There could be a farmer 10 miles outside of Ames who's a die hard ISU fan for the last 50 years, but maybe he doesn't have a lot of money so he can't afford to attend games or get season tickets, or donate any money to the university. Since he hasn't "contributed anything" to ISU, nobody is going to listen to him which in my opinion is a shame.

I also agree with you, the emailer could have had a different tone, but as much power as JP has and considering he probably didn't know the emailer before, to me it's completely unacceptable to respond like that. When I deal with clients that I don't know, even if they say something snide and rude, you never ever respond back with something back. You build a relation first otherwise your customer relations are going to break down before they even begin. I can't tell you how deep in **** i would be if I actually responded like JP. I'd probably be thrown off the project right away and replaced.

But the guy said JP and GMAC were not doing there parts and threatened to pull all his money out. Jamie is telling him that EVERYONE has to do their part, and challenges HIM to step up. And, by sending it to the media, JP extends that challenge to everyone who wants good things to happen but has not stepped up yet to help make it happen. You're right, this is not a conventional response, but I think it could be effective. What's the downside for JP? I do think he was wrong to include the fan's name in the document he released to the press.
