A note on ISU's assistant coach search

There hasn't been much talk of who Greg McDermott plans on hiring as an assistant coach but this name is officially "out there" now so I thought I'd comment.

That name is Iowa Energy head coach Nick Nurse. I do not believe that this is a done deal as I've heard in a few places.

I can say that I've heard Nick's name be mentioned a few times to me by a couple of different people from all over the place. This move would make a ton of sense for Iowa State and I think would be a great hire.

He can relate to players as you've seen through his work in the professional game. He's a great basketball mind.

Just wanted to comment on this today as it is out there.

Do you anything about where his recruiting ties are? If he can relate to players and keep them around, I am all for it!

Can't get a confirmation or denial...If I had to guess, done deal, just waiting for the d league season to be over.

I would rather hire an assistant coach that is a great recruiter than someone with great player relations. We need to get some players in here to turn this thing around.

Interesting. I thought Nurse's next move would be to the NBA as an Asst. Coach down the bench a ways.

I think this is a great hire! Did Mac coach him at UNI? I think the UNI connection is going to tick alot of people off though.

We got players in here to help turn things around (see Wesley Johnson, JHam, Colvin). We need to get them in and STAY IN more than anything.

Nurse is only 3 years younger than McDermott. McDermott began coaching at UNI in 2001.
