A Notre Dame/Big 12 connection?

Well they did put the Tour de France on there this year. It is actually kind of nice to be able to watch USA if you are watching the Tour live or flip over to Peacock if you are watching it later.

Plus early-day coverage of all 4 rounds of the Open, and several sessions of the world track and field championships.

Not bad for summer programming.

I think things are potentially quite a bit different now. The new members of the Big 10 and SEC give them a lot more scheduling leverage with ND. If the Big 10 really wants to pressure ND, the obvious thing they can do is agree to not schedule them and that now includes USC.

Yeah, I think Notre Dame will have to make some adjustments like that to stay somewhat competitive with the P2. We've seen they are slower and less likely to make some of those changes to keep with tradition but things do gradually change over time even for them.
There's always leveraging the B1G against the SEC for ND. In other words, 'Fine. Don't schedule us. We'll just go to the other guys.' That'd really piss one of the conferences off.

IMO, NBC has the best NFL broadcast by far.
That's because they carry the Chiefs! LOL. In our area anyway.

Other than that, yes NBC seems better to me than Fox.
Does anyone still watch Nascar?
My SIL is really into Formula One. Not sure if it's Formula One, because there is also Grand Prix, Formula Two, etc. Have no idea as I'm not usually into racing.

Seems interesting though.

I'm OK w/ anything that leverages against B1G and SEC. Boo Hoo for them. I hope whatever media contracts they sign, it doesn't pan out as planned. That would be so horrible.

That is correct. NBC has had zero negotiations with the Big12.
Wouldn't be hard to hire a consultant to research what a potential NBC bid might look like.

And that consultant's first research call would be to someone at NBC.

Agree there won't be direct negotiations, but they will surely get some kind of ballpark thru a back channel, esp if NBC is serious.

Not exactly sure.
Luckily, Yormark doesn't work for the Big 12.
And it’s like not being able to talk to coaches at a school without contacting them. You have a lawyer/headhunter talk to their lawyer/headhunter/rep and go back and forth that way.

NBC has paid huge money for Premier League rights and while they can continue broadcasting Saturday morning matches, picking up more CFB will limit their ability to show games mid-day or in the early afternoon. I’m not sure what the difference is between a B12 game or a Premier League match on network TV, but that last audience is a growing one. NBC would seem to have the ability to do 2 CFB games daily while still fulfilling that whole Premier League contract - they could do a 3-3:30pm kick and then a late game. So there is an opening for the B12 there, but it would likely only be for 1 game at least on Saturdays, and times would certainly be secondary to whatever Notre Dame wants.

That could be one valuable game for the big XII, and since they only get ND home games, maybe we could be the fill in on the off weekends.

Last fall's PL broadcast (non-streaming) schedule, with ND games added:

all times Eastern
Sat 9/11 - 10am (USA), 12:30 (NBC), 2:30 Notre Dame (Peacock only)
Sat 9/18 - 10am (USA), 12:30 (NBC), 2:30 Notre Dame
Sat 9/25 - 10am (NBCSN), 12:30 (NBCSN)
Sat 10/2 - 12:30 (NBC), 2:30 Notre Dame
Sat 10/16 - 10am (USA), 12:30 (NBC)
Sat 10/23 - 10am (USA), 12:30 (NBC), 7:30 Notre Dame
Sat 10/30 - 10am (USA), 12:30 (NBC), 7:30 Notre Dame
Sat 11/6 - 1:30 (NBC), 3:30 Notre Dame
Sat 11/20 - 10am (USA), 12:30 (NBC), 2:30 Notre Dame

If NBC keeps a similar scheduling model with PL, you could possibly have any combination of:
*12:00/12:30ET CFB on USA
*2:30ET Notre Dame
*6:00/6:30ET (4:00/4:30MT) CFB on NBC, which would leave at least an hour for primetime network programming, followed by news and SNL.
*7:00ET (5:00MT) CFB on USA

People talking about game times... I'd imagine we'll see 10:30 AM central regularly for Big 12, maybe even 10 AM. I have no data or rumor to back that up.

I say this because adding the Pac 12 schools you could literally have Big 12 football on for 12-14 hours straight on most Saturday's.

Keep in mind that NBC Universal is using USA network more and more for sports. Almost every cable package has USA network. I wouldn't hate having games on USA network if it allows us to make as much money as possible.

Peacock is awful though... That would be a very low priority for me in Tier 3 rights.

I dont know how much scheduling ND wants with the SEC. Losses can add up fast. ND is its own brand and I think they would just add the bigger programs from the ACC if they lose B1G or SEC spots. They'll sell tickets to UNC/FSU/U/Clemson, and those teams will be happy to schedule them.

They schedule SEC teams when they can. SEC teams hesitate to schedule them. They've had LSU, Tennessee and Georgia recently. They are supposed to play Alabama in 2025, but who knows if that will happen. SEC teams love their below average 1AA teams in mid November.

Why play Notre Dame when you can play The Citadel?
