Assuming TOs and missed FGs are a push, the team with fewer 3 and outs wins. I expect that to be ISU.

You only like it because it has the big ten name on it.
It could have the Big 12 name on it and I wouldn’t be complaining about lackluster production because I don’t see it that way. BTN has always looked completely fine to me. I don’t really care who is announcing the game, because that is the least of my priorities if I want to watch a game. I do love Gus Johnson though.

1 & 2 I really don't see happening..

3 could happen.

4 is likely.

ISU going to need a few big plays to force them to come from behind.

I can already see myself throwing remote thru my TV when the TE sneaks out a drag for 35 yards on 3 & 12.
Ain't that the truth

Never heard anyone complain with the BTN’s coverage of a football or bball game. It is on par with everyone else’s productions for the most part.

The cameras are quality. The rest of it is so slanted and corny, it's tough to watch as an opponent. If Petras completes over 50% of his passes, they will be gushing. Already prepared to listen to the genius of Brian's first down pass play calls the entire 1st half.

I never said he was a complete unknown. My point is that we haven't seen what he can do when he's the one getting the 1st team reps and allowed to start building chemistry with the starters during practices. And again, he may not be much better if any better, we just don't know. And no, just because he proved himself to be better than Petras doesn't mean he'd be playing. At any other program, sure. At Iowa, no, which is why I listed the other situations where KF kept the better QB on the bench.
You don’t think he was getting first team reps during practice in the weeks he started last year against Minny, Illinois, Northwestern, and Nebraska? Come on, man. Padilla got a chance to show he was better than Petras on the field. It wasn’t just a few series or a game, it was four starts. That’s plenty to know what you have in a QB. Blaming the staff for not recognizing that Padilla is the better than Petras is just silly.

I'm sure he was, maybe splitting them some weeks like NW since he didn't start against them, Petras did, so 3 starts. There is a difference though between that where it's basically gameplanning and getting the bulk of the reps during spring/fall before the season. I'm not saying Padilla would be much of an upgrade, if at all. Labas is the real mystery. Neither of them could be a worse option than Petras. And like I've said this staff has gotten it wrong on QBs plenty.

You may be right. If Petras has another game like he had versus SDSU, I think we are going to find out sooner than later. My guess is Petras looks better this week. If Iowa can get their run game going, that will make defenses respect the run and take a lot of pressure off Petras.

Game Prediction/Thoughts:

I enjoy writing these then coming back after the game to see how similar the actual game went.

Iowa St. on Offense:
- As seen last week the game will flow through the left arm of Hunter Dekkers. I expect Dekkers to be prepared and capable of putting together some quality drives resulting in points vs. this stingy Iowa D.
- In my opinion the thing the stood out the most for me when watching Dekkers last week was his overall comfort level and control of the game. I understand this is a much different test but I expect Dekkers to remain poised and have the opportunity to do his job on the field
- X was elite last week and really looks like he's taken another step since last season. His size, ability and the new look offensive scheme he is in this year all enhance his strengths. I do expect the Iowa D to have a few answers for him this week as he is the focal point of the ISU O. Which brings me to my next point...
- Jaylin Noel. To me, this is his greatest opportunity for a breakout game. Big stage, big game, tough defense etc. X will primarily be shadowed by R. Moss which leaves Jaylin free to get to work. I expect Jaylin to catch about 7 or 8 balls for 90+ yards and a TD. He has the burst and now the experience to explode. He caught a ton of passes last week but didn't break anything overly long - I expect that to change this week in Iowa City.
- J. Brock and E. Sanders will likely have a tough time gaining a ton of yards on the ground but look for them in the screen game and out of the backfield.

Iowa St. on Defense:
- While the media and articles have slandered both Petras and B. Ferentz the most this week (rightfully so) I think the true issue with Iowa's offense primarily lies within the OLine and WRs.
- Iowa has 3 WRs (two of which are walk-ons) on the depth chart this week that have yet to catch a single pass in a college football game. That is an issue - no matter what QB is on the field.
- While still young, Myles Purchase and TJ Tampa are supreme athletes and should be able to blanket these Iowa "weapons" throughout the game. I see the two starting CBs playing well - maybe even coming down with a INT or two.
- The interior of Iowa's OLine was embarrassed by SDSU last week causing some change on the depth chart this week - now bc of that I assume they will improve but I still am expecting some "game wrecking" from our big dudes at DT - Isaiah Lee and Dom Orange. Lee is a known commodity at the postion but I anticipate a big game from the freshman out of Kansas City. Look for the two to combine for 3+ TFLs/Sacks this Saturday.
- The one positional group I am slightly concerned about this week is the LBs - we need them to step up in the run game and stopping S. LaPorta. If they can do so, I don't see the Hawkeyes scoring over 14 pts.

Let's hope the rain holds off and we see a clean game from the Cyclones resulting in a W and 2-0 start.

FINAL PREDICTION: ISU - 23 Iowa - 13

I'd love to be the team to force turnovers in this game.....Iowa hasn't turned the ball over in this series since 2015 I believe....if we can win the turnover battle, I like our chances

So how many years have you been doing these on CF?

Just a little Iowa (State) sarcasm! :) Someone told me recently that Iowans tend to have a sarcastic sense of humor. I agree.

Iowa fans say they are a big draw, so why can’t they pull a better channel?
And for god sake, it's their Super Bowl!

I don't need this, but :jimlad:

Sounds like that Ferentz cat is totally incompetent. I can't figure why Iowa hasn't ditched him yet.
Mind blowing that the Hoks were in line to get Zach Wilson, but went with Petras instead.
Meh. Wilson will never amount to anything.

Just kidding. I hope he does well with the Jets and Breece! [Wilson out 'til week 4 at the earliest. Difficult start to his 2nd year. :( ]

YouTube TV ($69/M) is showing 4 channels covering B10 games. One of the channels is carrying ISU vs Iowa. I'm in the Denver, CO area, with the game starting at 2 pm.
Another good option. I did the 1 month YouTube for the NCAA BB bourney, to see ISU. To me it was worth it. And the 1st month I think was only $49, IIRC. I liked YouTube, but cxl'd after the 1st month.
I'm gonna try the fubo.tv , 7 day free trial (which has the B1G network), tomorrow.

Got youtube TV - always enjoyed it. Have thought of fubo but that is mostly due to my co-favorite sport of soccer.

I expect Iowa's offense to be much improved in week 2. I don't think they score 30+ but I think they look more like a competent offense and score 17-20. I just hope we score 18-21.

Congrats on the W to ISU. It’s going to be lonnngg season for Iowa. Worst offense of my lifetime and the second worst isn’t in shouting distance.
