cue the Campbell to Oregon rumors

Hines quoted a tweet that Oregon is apparently going to go hard after Kelly and then made a snide comment about Campbell getting another chance to move to LA.

It would be nice if they could announce the extension soon.

Maybe it's just me but this is not an impressive hire for a team heading into the SEC. I predict they'll be doing another search in 5 years.
Every hire is a gamble and I'm sure OU wished BV had head coaching experience but rarely you get everything you want and even when you do sometimes it still doesn't work out. This is really as safe of a hire as they could get.

No doubt this hire has Stoops' fingerprints all over it - and if I'm a Sooner fan, that's fine with me. From the outside it seems like others were not interested.
After all, Stoops arrived in Norman as the celebrated DC at Florida, and never was a HC either. Sooners are hoping for Stoops 2.0.

The tenure of Bob Stoops at OU is actually pretty underwhelming. For the recruits they had, Heisman winners, and only 1 Natty?

No Heisman for Adrian Peterson?
No National Championship with Adrian Peterson?
2000-2010 was a perfect time for OU to dominate, and they didn't.

If only Big Game Bob could have actually won the big games…

Hiring Venables is as safe as they can get? I think it is a good hire, but that says a lot about OU's status as an elite program. Bama is hiring Saban. LSU went with Kelly, who is a perfect fit for the SEC scum/win at all cost crowd. USC got Riley. Now those are about as safe as you can get. They get a guy, for various reasons, they did not go with when they decided to groom Riley.

This is more like UT pulling Sark as a fake blueblood imo. Regarded as one of the brightest offensive minds in college football, a ton of positive PR coming out of Bama. In Sark's case, there was more "known" given his record at USC and UW, so in some ways more safe.

And no, I would not have said Day or Smart were as safe as it gets, although they seemed like good hires from afar (Day more so than Smart, a DC from Bama seems risky to me).

Way up there
I don't like this if true. Campbell would do very well in Oregon in my opinion.

I don't think he would, seems like a very different culture that he would prefer. I also feel like with the NIL stuff, Nike is going to be calling the shots. I've known a couple kids that played d1 ball and each said Oregon it's the sleaziest program they encountered. Offered drugs, money, women almost as soon as they got on campus. Lots of meddling from the money men.
