Why do you think they are overrated? I am not picking a fight...just seems like a program that should be in the top 25 every year. I have never heard anyone saying they should always be a top 10 program...and they made the playoffs once didn't they? Of course, they seem to be most successful when they are feeding off of the LA area recruits when USC/UCLA are struggling.

I should say "self-overrated". They are putting themselves in the job-tier of USC, LSU, and OU. Sure it's objectively a better job than Iowa St but they aren't who they think they are. They think their one playoff berth makes them super special and they seemed to think Campbell was going to leave Iowa St without blinking?

This is 100% true for the Hoiberg family. It was fun for them at first but got old in a hurry. It got to the point the only place they would eat out was Aunt Maude’s because they’d set up a place in the basement for them. Even going to church during basketball season was tough - people would stop him to ask about a game.
Tim Floyd was the same way here. Hated living under the microscope. Once things got rolling here and his visibility increased, he couldn’t wait to get out. I imagine it grates on you after a while.

Two points:

1. I as a normal person wouldn't bother him and his family if they were sitting down eating.
2. There are not very many normal people in the world, and even less on this message board.

Texas has a pretty good argument for the overrated and delusional title.

They at least are still recruiting at a top level and can pay unlimited money. And have a relatively recent title.

Their problem is the booster interference and bad coaching hires. One good hire and Texas can be back, but they can't seem to do that right.

Nebraska is the most delusional. They cut off their own recruiting pipeline by leaving the B12 and now they have to fight with all the other Big Ten schools for the same recruits.

Ames ran away Fred Hoiberg by fawning over him, but also he wanted star treatment by the athletics dept and they couldnt necessarily afford it all. Hopefully a lesson learned here for Ames residents, and the man that simply nodded in Subway should be an example to all.

You are correct. Nebraska is number 1. Texas should be up there.

I always took it as Fred understood coaching in Ames was a fish bowl, and he was ok with it. Wife and kids were another story. Fred was always chasing NBA coaching glory, from the day he got here. Pollard was realistic about the whole thing, Fred bailed the program out when he came home, but their egos were not a good fit together.

LA, even the nice parts, just isn’t for everybody. After graduating from ISU I moved to LA and loved it. Spent a good deal of my free time in Westwood and it was glorious (when I was twenty something). I drug my wife to be out to join me a few years later and she didn’t share my enthusiasm. Which means we split the difference and moved to San Diego…..
Wow. Sounds like me. Except Valley then Hermosa Beach where I discovered WAACO (Western Association of Crazy Chicagoans and Others). It was Karma. If not for all the midwest friends I made out there, it wouldn't have been for me. But the right friends with the same background makes all the difference. Loved my 20's at the beach. 30's up in S.F. and 40's running around wherever my wife wants to go.;)

Don't under-estimate the relationship between Pollard and Campbell. Pretty certain that's a major consideration for CMC.
Absolutely, that matters, and we're lucky that relationship exists. But I guarantee you that both parties know the nature of the relationship, and where the power is.

No doubt; but, it's a whole lot easier to do your job when your "boss" is fully behind you, and helps you succeed.

How many conf championships have Nebraska, Mizzou, TAMU and Colorado won since leaving the BIgXII?
[/QUOTE]

And none of those won a Big XII title in 20 years (CU in 2001). For the most part those teams weren't winning titles anyway. I think the impact of them going to their other conferences on the field is overstated.

This is true for every employed person -- if you don't get along with your boss, you probably aren't going to be happy with your job no matter how well it matches up in other ways.

Problem is, people often forget that head coaches have bosses too.

If anything their recruiting became more difficult due to region.

And the idea that Nebraska simply couldn't compete in the B1G is a fallacy for anyone that knows what happened on Black Friday, 2001.

(Colorado broke Nebraska football forever)
