Quarterbacks are a tough one. I would probably take Lanning over Jantz or Barnett even though both of those guys could play lights out if they wanted to. This is assuming we arent counting Arnaud.

The one thing this thread really points out is how Linebackers are really the only position that Rhoads did a great job recruiting throughout his tenure. They have been probably the most consistent position

He recruited horrible at the LB position after his first class at ISU. I mean it was really really bad. Probably the worst position during his time at ISU.

By looking at the names, I'm guessing it's plays that signed with Rhoads.

KO, Bykowski, McDonough, Maggitt, and LJ were all here in '08 for Chizik's last season. Klein and Lenz both committed to Chizik in fall '08, and then re-committed after talking with Rhoads.

This is a great idea. Do you mind if I steal it for an offseason column? Could do a McCarney, Chizik team too.

Those would be some good articles. Start off back with Majors, hitting Bruce, Duncan, Criner, Walden, McCarney and finishing with Rhoads. Each of those coaches had some really good players while here.

You can leave Chizik off if you like...his remarks when leaving Ames still make me want to slap the stupid out of him.

Arnaud over Jantz and any qb that Rhoads coached by a mile. Irving needs to be in there somewhere on the DL, he will likely have more of an impact in the NFL than everyone on the defense list combined. Sims over Washington. Franklin over Bibbs.

Chiz has a well deserved bad rap around here, but he brought it some talent. 3 of those guys are in the League and 2 of them start!

Pick any year Rhoads was here... Does this starting lineup win the Big 12? What is there season record? Add in any guys for depth that you want.

I don't think they do. I bet theyd go 9-3 or 10-2.

Nah.

And NFL production should have nothing to do with this list.

Not sure I would state "only position group". TE is a position that had some quality thoughout the Rhoads years, although the Rhoads staff may not have recruited all of them (to lazy to look it up) in his 6 years he had 3 NFL TE Franklin, Brun, and Bibbs and I think one of them was on the roster every year except his last year. They were all transfers. Bykowski was also brought in as a TE before switching to OL but he may be a GC recruit. Now if we want to talk about under utilizing the TE position that is whole different topic.

I will say that if CMC stays for 7 years he will by far have the best All-Coached team and will put more players in the league than any ISU coach BY FAR.

Cue the Huey Lewis music.

Right now he's great selling excitement to both fans and players/recruits but I want to see what kind of longevity is there. If that's the case the next 7 years could be a lot of fun.

Guys like Sims, Bundrage, Horne, Benton were all debatable. Every QB was up and down but I always liked Jantz. Honestly, who wins the battle between Arnaud, Jantz, Barnett, Richardson, Lanning?

This could be debated until the sun rises in the West and sets in the East. Arnaud in terms of game management, but couldn't stay healthy, and IMO probably surrounded with the worst WR group in the past decade. Jantz wins (probably) if you're going off sheer talent and athleticism. Prone to the bone head decision though. Barnett really brought nothing to the table aside from our biggest win ever. SBR started off promising but ended in a garbage fire. Too early to tell with Lanning, but he has a good a shot as any
