Son, if there was ever a legitimate excuse to get out of visiting the in-laws, it would be a global pandemic. Now be a man and put your foot down.

(Note: you should take advice from the Pope at your own risk)

Not exactly sure.
Shouldn’t go. This omicron seems to be different than the rest. No reason to chance it with a young kid and elderly parents.

Long story short...... child (not able to get vaxxed yet) was exposed to covid at daycare... has had mild cold symptoms and was negative for COVID

I stay home with the child this week. I now have to mild cold (coughing, general crappy feeling) and I am also negative for covid.

I am double vaxxed and boosted as well as my wife....

I think its a bad idea to continue our xmas plans of driving a sizeable distance to her parents who are both double and boosted (and they know we’ve been sick, don’t care).

My wife (who isn't sick) says shes going (with child) whether I go or not.

Just go. Tested negative, as well as your kid. You more than likely have a cold. Take some zinc and vitamin C. Heck, wear a mask. Go and enjoy your family on X-Mas. Life is short.

That fact that your wife said she is going with, or without you, pretty much means you better get your a@@ in the car. LOL!!!!!

I mean, that's really what it comes down to. Whatever risk of exposing the in-laws to Covid is happening regardless of whether he goes.

Well I'm jealous of your negative tests. Son just tested positive today so xmas eve plans cancelled and xmas day with family cancelled.

That's a bummer, sorry to hear that. We're supposed to be hosting Christmas for one side of the family right now but lingering Covid issues in another family member's household have pushed it off until January.

Sounds like your In-Laws are able to make their own judgement calls, if they say they want to see you, despite the risk. That's their decision to make not yours, go as planned.

EDIT: Unless your argument is that you don't feel well enough to make the long trip. Then you have to decide if you're THAT sick.

It doesn't have to be latest virus to be serious. Use to be common sense just to stay put for a few days (work, school, vacation) if having signs of illness because what might be a runny nose to you could be much more to someone else. I fear that people are getting a false sense of security that if it isn't this specific virus........then everything will be okay. Your wife may not be now......but on the way may get sick or when she reaches her destination.
