As far as the original comment, I think it is a valid point and it is kind of hard not to bring McDermott into. He's happy where he is at. We are happy where we are at.

But I do think it is a testament to the quality coach Hoiberg is becoming that he is able to win in his first 3 seasons like he has.

Yeah, but Fred doing that in one season less has to have a huge asterisk next to it because Fred did it with more conference games...what?...wait a minute...nevermind.

Back at ya, but what's with having to name your wrestling coach to register? You'd think as an OSU fan I'd be able to rattle that off, but I must admit I had to Google it. Trying to keep Texas fans off your site?

I think my first go I just put his last name and got rejected.:twitcy: Too bad it didn't keep the egomaniac KU fan base away last week.

I'm jealous of Greg McDermott. I've never seen someone get more mileage out of the "he's a nice guy" card.

I would really like to ask some of the players who ran shrieking out of Ames about what a swell guy he was.

I remember that guy, but I was talking about that big Croatian you guys had, don't tell me you forgot about him. He was Croat before Croat was cool.

julius michalik. he was tall and skinny and not much of an inside player. good jump shot though. meyer was the bulkier guy that had some classic battles against reeves. the of course we had the mayor in the same class, as well as hurl beechum. i miss that team!

Decency my ###. He knew he wasn't cut out for Big time basketball and lucked into a situation at Creighton and having a son who could play at their level. Once Dougs gone and Altmans recruits are done, the game is over. I thank CU grads everytime I see them. They won't see the NCAA's again, especially if they go to the Big East.

I am pretty sure Julius is from Slovakia. Unless you mean Martin Rancinck (sp), I don't recall where he was from,

And With That Win, Fred Hoiberg....equals the amount of total wins Greg McDermott had at ISU, in over one less season.

Sorry I had to do it, but thought it was pretty interesting. Here's to many more years of success. I <3 Hoiberg.

NO surprise here people stop looking and move along as they say. LOL

Yeah as a person I like GMac but as a power conference coach he was a "Utter Failure"....

He's doing a great job in Omaha and thats where he belongs...Greg was a "Bad Hire" from the start and never got better.

Move Along Folks Nothing to See Here...LOL

I don't really care if McDermott is a nice guy...he drove our program into the ground. Hilton was a graveyard and we basically had no home court advantage. He had NBA-caliber players on his teams and yet we finished at the bottom of the league year in and year out. We gave him some ridiculous 7 year contract. All of that's okay because "he's a nice guy"??

Larry Eustachy was an *******, and people liked him. Why? Because he won. And when he stopped winning, some people turned on him.

This isn't about being nice or mean, its about winning basketball games. Hoiberg is doing it, McDermott didn't.

I sort of agree with you - but also sort of don't. I never liked LE, even though he won. I love to win, but I also like to do it with dignity and decorum. Tim Floyd could be an *** on the court, but he was a great mix of dignity and wins.

All that being said - McDermott did have a good heart. I think many of our coaches over the years have had good hearts, but he was really sympathetic to many causes. I wish him the best, and am just glad at this point that it's not here - for all parties involved, including him.

Fred to be on w/ Freddie Coleman (ESPN radio) at approx 2210.

Last Saturday, I had ESPN radio on and Freddie picked ISU as his choice for unranked team that could go to the final four.

Make it so.

I don't think anyone thinks he was anything but a failure here. Buy what some don't understand is the animosity towards him. Who's fault is it really if he was a terrible hire and a bad fit? Him, or the person who hired him?

We didn't have to fire him, or buy out his contract. He didn't attempt to tear down the program on his way out ala Morgan. It was a clean break, and everyone is in a better place now. So why the hell do Cyclone fans feel the need to keep looking at the past and ******** about it. Get the **** over it.

With or without Doug it is going to be a tough season in the Big Priest next year. If Doug leaves they may not win a conference game.

Greg could then recruit back East in the new conference. That should be interesting.

I remember not quite feeling right when the announcement/celebration was held for McD, and he said something about how fun it would be to beat Iowa again (he'd been known for doing it at UNI). That right there showed a disconnect with what ISU basketball should be about (competing for conference championships, making Hilton dreadful for opposing CONFERENCE teams, and getting wins against the likes of Kansas). Beating Iowa should be secondary, if not further down, for ISU basketball.

For CFH--while I'd like to see an improvement on defensive work, he's done some great things in a short time. I also think there's something to say for his ability to get the team to rise up after the OU game, to come out and take care of a real good OSU team. I realize the players had to play, but it had to start from somewhere...

That's why I do not like the guy. I mean, that is a crime isn't it?
