Another Player Only Meeting...

I think we'll be good next year, but to expect we won't be down at all after losing our best offensive player since Fizer and having to replace 3-4 of our starters seems a bit silly. I don't think we'll be quite as good but I wouldn't be surprised at all to actually have a similar record and Big 12 standing as we do now, however (mostly cause I think we're better than our record suggests this year).

I don't understand all the people jumping ship on this year's team. We've been in every single game this year. Every one. We've only lost 1 game by more than 5 points in regulation (TAM), and in that one we were tied with 5 minutes left. I'm not sure that we've been down by 15 points at any point all year. That was like a daily occurrence last year.

We're 4-7 in games decided by 5 points or less (or OT), which is not very good. Whether that's fatigue, poor execution, or poor game plan I can't say. It's been said the real issue is our defense, which is true, but at this point I don't see that changing. But if we could just play the last 5 minutes like we do the first 35 minutes of every game, we'd be a top 5 team with maybe 4 losses. And I still think that's a very fixable issue at this point in the season.

Sounds like a step in the right direction. I remember 3 or 4 player only meetings Kane's year.

Ok probably a stupid question, but what is the purpose of a players only meeting? Are there really things you can't talk about with the coaches present? Is it to hash out personal or team problems? Curt, you played, what's the deal?

Could be a disconnect with the coaches. How many of these have they had this year? Or is this just more media hype to fill up space in the paper. Seems like more of an excuse to take the focus off the team after a loss and build up more hope. It will be spun as an incredibly great idea after we beat TCU in Hilton which we should have no problem doing.

Usually for the leaders to get everyone on the same page. It's inevitable that some are going to vear off the path they need to be on in order for the team to be successfull. Sometimes these meetings are needed so everyone can air their grievances/feelings and get on the same page. Not having coaches there makes it easier since these are your brothers/friends.

I remember one team meeting we had which resulted in a coach leaving the program (because he was a racist ***).

Basically what McKay said in Rob's article. Players are more likely to respond if their teammates/friends demand accountability. I get the sense that this wasn't a "right the ship" meeting as much as it was "this is go time, no more BS" meeting. Who knows if it will have any effect, but Naz and Georges are going to have more success with it than your average player.

I just hope the players meeting centered on one thing- time for FocusTown. We get back there and this team can beat teams like NC in the tourney, again.

Is Focus Town near Funky Town?

I don't think jumping ship is the right words, but CW said it best when he said 'can't trust this team'. I'm not going that far, as I've been sticking up for them almost the entire time, regardless of the close losses. But when it comes to our depth and seeing how disadvantaged we are defending the post area, I'm not getting my hopes up too high.... because quite frankly, I'm not sure what we'll get out of McKay. His whole situation doesn't seem peachy creamy.

Why do you think it takes more than one?

Well boys, time to flip the switch tonight and win a game you aren't supposed to win. Was all fun and games against TCU, but you could really show us you mean business by winning tonight.

Good teams win at home

Great teams win on the road when they aren't supposed to.

The question is, do you have what it takes to be great?

lol....if only it just took "flipping a switch". Oh, and by the way, WV happens to be a darn good team, too, and needing to win to get OU-home loss taste out of their mouth. But if we lose, I'm sure CF posters will assume they "weren't showing us they mean business". Whatever.

Is that what the #14 means by their name? Thanks Captain Obvious....

And way to set your expectations up for the loss already. You are one of the "True Fans".

I do believe my post said "if" they lose. Doesn't equate to the team not showing up or "meaning business".

Not sure if it was attributed to the team meeting, or the last game he mysteriously sat out, but I was encouraged by McKay's play last night.

He was called for 2 ridiculous fouls, and didn't get to play as much as he maybe would have, but noticed on a few plays he seemed to be a little more in control. I remember a couple of times he made better decisions whether to block the shot, or just make the player alter the shot. And seemed active on the glass. Maybe didn't grab a ton of boards, but who does against wvu. Effort like last night will get him back to being a double/double player I feel like.

Hoping to see effort like that during the rest of the season, and I do think he could become a positive factor again for the Cyclones.

I have it on good authority that Jackie Moon sang 'love me sexy' and told the team he was going to look after them 'like Bambi's mother', and that Ed Monnix is going to have a more hands on role now.
