I have the FitBit One. It is a neat little toy. I find it interesting that it is 3.5 miles to mow my lawn and an extra .5 mile to trim it. It is just over .5 mile from where I park to walk to my office. On a weekend day in the summer I can easily get to 15k+ steps just chasing after my two year old. It is kind of fun to compete against friends if they have one also.
The most useful part is that I have it linked to MyFitnessPal so it will adjust my calorie intake based on activity throughout the day.
I know someone who uses one of these, and she's become obsessed about hitting her goal numbers every day. To the point where she'll pace around a room in order to get enough steps to hit the target.
She's said the only thing that doesn't work well is that it'll often overstate her activity. Like, if she's driving somewhere, it might say she's taken several hundred steps or gone up several flights when she hasn't moved from the car.
I've had the FitBit One since June of last year. I sync it to MyFitnessPal (online food tracking) and Spark People, and I like it. The One is the clip-on variety, and I put it inside my shirt. I used to use the wrist band for night time, but the One fell out too many times. Now I just clip it on like during the day. Sleep records are interesting. I don't pay as much attention to the "extra" calories it says I use at night, but the activity during night -- awake, asleep, restless -- is helpful. Sometimes explains why I get up feeling really tired.
I think it cost $99 from Amazon, no idea on price now. Customer service can be pretty responsive. I lost a tiny rubber/plastic piece from the end of the clip while on vacation a few weeks ago, and went to the site to see about getting a new one. Found out several people recently had the same problem, sent a note to online customer service and they sent me a whole new clip part at no cost.
yeah, the sleep tracking is interesting to me too. So what does it sync with MFP? Just your activity? You know, there's a girl in my gym class that I think has one. She's always saying at the end if we got a good workout or not - I should ask her tonight what she has.
CG, it transfers the caloric equivalent of your activity. So for example, if you've done enough exercise, it allows you more food calories for that day. It's based of course on what you set up and enter for weight, etc. in MFP initially.
So from looking at the website, it appears that the ONE and the Flex both do what I want. comes down to if its easier to have it on my wrist or wear it in my clothes.
cool, thanks! And why did you pick the clip-on over the wristband? Not having to have it out in the open?
yeah I had a cheap pedometer that was great about doing that. Actually go running? It couldn't keep up and would say I took about 75 steps. Sitting at my desk tapping my foot? Congratulations! You went 1,000 steps!
