Any Fitbit users?

Mostly because that's what I was used to. I'd had a pedometer for years that I clipped to the inside of a pants pocket. I wanted to be able to get to it, but not have it be on display.

But also because I figured having something that registers body movement would be more accurate if it was closer to my body rather than on a wrist. I don't trust that it would register the right stuff if on a part of my body (arm or wrist) that was probably always moving, as opposed to the body itself which would move more when my legs actually moved.

good point. And it doesn't bulge when clipped into a pocket or bra? How easily does it stay put? I see it mentions that it gives time - is that just the time of how long you've been running, etc. or the actual time like a watch?

Sorry for all the questions! I've just been interested in one of these for a while.

I think it's just the universe's way of telling you that exercise is overrated and that you'd be much happier lounging around instead of running. At least that's how I'd interpret the results :)

ha, the last thing I need is more encouragement to sit!

I don't know much about these newfangled things except my brother-in-law puts something called MapMyRun on Facebook every single day. It will say he burned 600 calories or something and then he will post a picture of himself drinking beer and eating a nacho platter by himself that looks like it would feed about four people.

I clip it so the clip back is outside and the face inside, if that makes sense. Otherwise it will show a bulge in your clothes (and we know how excited some people here get when that happens) and that's not cool. Time is time of day. Everything resets at midnight on the One itself, but as long as you've set up the online account, everything is there.

Another "cool" thing is that you name the One account, so when you move it after stopping the sleep mode, it lights up with your name.

Mine shows these things:
a flower (stalk grows as your exercise/movement increases)
Time of day (shows a.m. and p.m. and will eventually change to the correct time zone if you travel and remember to sync)
Number of regular steps (with two footprints)
Number of flights of stairs (with a stair graphic)
Distance you've traveled (mine is in miles)
Number of calories burned (has a flame graphic)

On the online account, it also shows (by day) number of active minutes (don't ask me how that works -- I think it's not very consistent); your sleep info; any badges you've earned -- like highest step number or stairs; and an activity tracker to show when you're active. This last is also a great visual indicator of how much you've been sitting on your butt. But, you need to go to it to see it. This doesn't show on the One itself.

All this is free, but there is a premium account option that has a fee.

I'll try to attach a screen shot of the online FitBit screen. Click on it to see it better.

so helpful, thank you!

I have a fitbit Flex. I really like it. A good indicator if my *** has been lazy that day or not. Plus you can use it for tracking calories. It can also be tired into a MyFitnessPal account and others.

It is more fun when you have family and friends that have one and can compete with them. My wife is one who obsesses with hitting her goals and trying to stay on top of her friends list with 7 day total steps.

I need to start utilizing it more and doing more food tracking, etc with the app.

yeah I think adding friends and having some of the competitiveness would appeal to me.

One more question - does it wake you up when you tell it to or is it one of those things that is supposed to wake you up at a certain point (within a range you give it) in your sleep cycle? I may be mixing up devices on this!

The sleep aspect is pretty cool. It tracks how much you move when you sleep, etc. The only wake up function is an actual alarm, which I love because it vibrates your wrist instead of a crazy *** alarm clock.

Not sure about that. At night I need to press and hold the One until it vibrates. That starts the sleep tracking. Then do the same when I'm ready to get up to stop that tracking. If you mess up on the sleep tracking, you can always go online and edit what it shows.

Do you have the one that goes on the wrist or off your waist band?

I'm interested in it tracking my steps, activity, and its not critical, but the sleeping thing and calories thing does interest me. Price isn't really an issue, but don't need the most expensive either just because.

The FitBit One is only available with a clip for your waist, or I clip it to the inside of my pocket. I had the Flex for a little while (gave it to my sister). The accuracy is much better with the One.

She's said the only thing that doesn't work well is that it'll often overstate her activity. Like, if she's driving somewhere, it might say she's taken several hundred steps or gone up several flights when she hasn't moved from the car.

I have never had an issue with driving my truck, but I wouldn't even notice a couple of hundred steps and I have never seen it add to my floors climbed count. Riding my Harley is a different story. I have gone on 50 mile rides that add 100+ floors to my count.

You must bounce a lot! (I'm smiling with you on this.) One day I had several thousand steps (legit) and 4 active minutes. I had taken some walks across campus for various things, meaning uninterrupted distances, and yet hardly anything registered as active minutes. That's why I like seeing active minutes, but I don't use them for tracking purposes.

My hubby was able to get one through work cheap as a health incentive. They had a company-wide challenge, can't remember what all was involved. I do think it provides a decent estimate of activity/calories burned but something with a heart rate monitor would be more accurate for that. He has the flex and when he mows the lawn it constantly goes Into to sleep mode because of the vibration of the push mower--so he may not get credit for walking/activity because it keeps shutting off. There must be some way you can convert other activity into "steps"--like if you did a 1/2hr exercise class it gives you an estimate of steps. I asked about the person who won the challenge--they had so many steps recorded it was the equivalent of running a marathon everyday. Something seems a little off with that, they must've done step conversion for other activities that gave them a crazy amount of steps. I wouldn't mind one but trying to decide if I'd rather do a heart rate monitor.

anyone ever used the vivofiot, polar loop, or ifit? wonder how those compare to fitbit?

Check out dcrainmaker blog for thorough wearable reviews. I think he was a big Vivofit fan
