I'm sure police officers would tell the people to stop calling about it. Police have more important things to deal with than fireworks.

The Iowa legislature had more important things to deal with than fireworks, and yet they found the time. I guess the police will just have to suck it up and find the time too.

Chicago does it right, might be the only thing they do right, but it seems like 99% of the people save their fireworks for the night of the 4th. I don't really hear many, if any, being lit off leading up to the 4th. But, for about 2-3 hours from sunset until 10-11pm on the night of the actual holiday, it sounds like a war zone. It's actually pretty cool to see if you are along the lake. As far as the eye can see and in every direction you look, you see constant fireworks. Being in a boat or on rooftop are the money seats.

And gun fire dont forget about that!

I use to live in a predominantly Mexican/Mexican American neighborhood in Denver and it was the same way on the fourth. Big fireworks coming from all directions. We would sit on the roof with a cooler of beer and it was a great way to celebrate the holiday. I don't know if they were extremely proud to be American or if they just loved blowing stuff up. Probably a little of both.

Hahaha, by Federal? I live in a neighborhood with quite a few Hispanics and fireworks were going off already last night.

Fireworks are overrated. They're only entertaining on the 4th.

Agree, WAY overrated. Unless you're 12 maybe.

Personally, I don't even think they're entertaining on the 4th either. Maybe if cities shot everything they had at once and it lasted like 5 minutes, that would be kinda cool. But no, they drag everything out to like 20 or 30 minutes and by the end you just want them to be over already.

Believe me, the police are annoyed about people calling in about it.

I've never understood why Ames has their firework show on the 3rd of July...

Actually, I think this is a great idea. Just like how the Super Bowl should be moved to Saturday too. Then, almost everyone would have the day after off.

I have to get up early on Weds the 5th to go to work, so I won't be up very late tomorrow night at all.

That sucks take a day or two off them. I just don't see the point of celebrating a holiday the day before.

Oh, I believe you. But the fact is it is going to generate a lot of calls, that is just the way it is. For the record I'm fairly ambivalent about the law. I'm not going to buy any but I'm sitting here on the sun porch watching them go off and it is sort of entertaining.

I'm shooting them off tonight but have let all neighbors know. Hopefully Johnston police have better things to do then write me a ticket.

I think it helps if you're done by about 10 or so. Johnston has quite a bit of area & not all that many officers, so you'd have to be pretty unlucky to get ticketed.

Cops stopped bye for a quick visit but no ticket. Said they have got a lot of complaints tonight in the city so just had me wrapped it up.

We had fireworks going in Indianola until 1:30 last night. The third prescription we tried this week for our pups finally worked, for the most part, but wore off long before they stopped. Someone must have bought a couple hundred of those big mortar-type fireworks, because those were going off for about 7 hours straight.
