That's why there's no way it's Oztelberger. Pollard has too much at stake, it's too much of a risk. If Otz doesn't cut it, people are going to say "Jamie what were you thinking?" - referring to Oztelberger's mediocre record.
He has to hire someone with a proven resume, someone in demand, so if it doesn't work out, Pollard can still say he hired a hot name. Just like the Chizik hire.

I get that Campbell likes JP and has the out if Iowa State has a new AD he doesn’t like. But from most insiders people don’t like JP, so it’s entirely possible that if Iowa State hires a new AD, CMC likes him just as much if not more. The whole CMC is only here because of JP is getting annoying, and I’m not even say move on from JP.
