Anyone else struggling to get exited for the CyHawk game?

Maybe Saturday I'll be excited, but having watched the UNI game a couple times now there is just so much disappointment for me right now. We looked so bad Saturday and while I think we will be much improved by mid season, we have a long ways to go. I expected more last Saturday. Every new staff has its growing pains but we had way more than usual. I can't wait to see what this staff can do with ISU but for this week it's just not the same for me.

I saw Iowa State almost lose/lose to FCS teams in 2011 and 2014, and then turn around and beat Iowa. At this point, knowing that the team is rebuilding and it's Campbell's first year, it feels like playing with house money. ISU almost always has a shot, because Iowa is rarely as good as they are perceived to be, and there is zero pressure as a fan for this game. So relax and if we lose, oh well. But if we win, enjoy the black and gold tears.

I'm excited to see if the coaching improves and if the team looks better prepared. That's what the coaches can control at this point. Saturday was disappointing from that standpoint.

As far as looking forward to Saturday, I don't know that I've heard John Walters sound more depressed than he did on the radio today. But he did say something that I have thought....sometimes it is good to be humbled.

Guess you guys didn't get the memo that Campbell lost to UNI on purpose so the hawks would be over-confident this week.

Saturday is when the real season starts!

Im in the same boat. Probably the biggest 180 in optimism Ive ever had in a football season between 2 games. Im usually so excited for this game, but that UNI game was so disappointing. Even if we had won, we were so sloppy and dysfunctional.

It was my fault for letting my expectations get too high, at the same time the worst ISU team should be able to beat any UNI team fairly comfortably.

It's still exciting. But imagine we beat UNI convincingly, like everything was flawless and we put up 42 points and Warren had 120 yards rushing. It's a useless thought exercise, but if we did that I would be waaaaay more excited for Saturday.

I am still excited for this Saturday but I have a feeling it will get ugly, early and often.

Still a fan, and still have Faith in these guys.....just without all the expectations I had pre-UNI

Doesn't feel like one of those years where we will pull this one off, and I don't think Iowa is as talented as last year across the board. Hope they can make some big improvements but that is asking a lot of a really thin team. Hype for the whole season is down for me, but if we come out and score on the first drive Saturday the hype train will pull me back in. Too many shots in the nuts over the years to get rid of the hopeless optimism now. (Did I just talk myself back in by the end of my post...)

I'm excited, but as someone else mentioned, we just looked so bad and unorganized, it's hard to imagine any scenario where we win. I'm hoping to see a coherent offense with fewer penalties and turnovers. I thought the defense looked fine other than our linebackers. Hoping to be in the game in the fourth quarter.

It's hard to get excited about anything involving the hawks. This game and the Men's basketball game are the only contact I willingly have with anything hawkeye related. This can only be accomplished living outside the state, but it really improves your quality of life.

I must be in the minority because my expectations for this season were very low. My expectations for this coaching staff and the future of Iowa State are higher but I was not expecting Campbell and Co. to turn this dumpster fire around immediately. At this point I'm just gonna sit back and relax and if we win, I'll enjoy it. If not, meh.

I wouldn't call it excited, but I'm looking more forward to 5-6 weeks from now to see what ISU has going for it.

Saturday is a chance to take a positive step forward before ISU heads to play TCU, who seems more beatable than the last two years.

Really hate to watch anything related to the eastern school. Leaning on taping it and if we pull out a win will really enjoy watching it. I say that now but will probably end up turning it on.
