I quit about a year ago. Transitioned to Bubly. Flavor isn't great but it's carbonated and somewhat refreshing. Now that I'm away from soda it seems totally gross to me.

I drank tons of pop growing up. We had the "pop fridge" out in the garage that was always fully stocked with whatever we wanted: pepsi, mt. dew, surge, you name it.

I would put down a 12 pack on Saturday in HS, easy. I continued that into college, but got better. I still drank full sugar pop on a regular basis, but rarely kept in my apartment. Still, I was probably at least one pop a day, usually more. And during all this, I was terrible about tooth care. So, I had probably 15-20 cavities in my early life.

After college, I would go through periods where I would give it up completely. Sometimes for lent, sometimes for a whole year, but I always kept coming back. Two years ago, I completely kicked the habit. I would have an occasional pop when on a long drive, but otherwise had none. However, since "zero sugar" options have come on board, I'm drinking it more regularly. I'm probably around 1 can of ZS Mt. Dew a day right now. I will also frequently do a zero sugar energy drink (ZOA, Rise, etc).

I've done a fair bit of reading on the diet/zero sugar stuff and it appears the research is quite inconclusive. Lots of folks will claim it causes cancer or other health issues, but from what I've seen, there's not direct correlation, as of yet. At least, that's what I tell myself :)

Used to drink a lot of 32oz fountain soda in my 20s, but at some point, it started grossing me out and hurting my teeth. I still enjoy a fountain Coke from McDonald's occasionally, but rarely finish it. Coffee, water, and Gatorades/Pedialyte for hangovers. Light beer on weekends.

I quit pop (not for the first time) two months ago. Mostly Mt. Dew. This time, I don’t see any reason to change that decision some day, I just don’t miss it. Once my body adjusted to the lack of caffeine, of course.

I think the real key might be, “Don’t buy any”. If it’s in the house, you’re gonna be tempted.

I am absolutely addicted to Diet Mt Dew! I like other sodas but I don't crave them. I wish I could stop drinking DMD cold-turkey but it won't happen. Anyone here have any success quitting soda? Any advice on doing so? Something to help with the transition to...water? I am not someone who feels everything I put in my body needs to be the healthiest stuff ever...but I drink way too much DMD and that can't be good! Appreciate any advice/guidance IF I choose to go down this path! Thanks!
Yep! I don’t think I’m in a better place though because now I drink Monster Ultras with the 10 calories.

My motivation to stop drinking Diet Mt Dew was reading somewhere that it contains a substance that is used in flame retardants. I also realized that instead of trying to eat more foods that were antioxidants for my health, I needed to stop eating the oxidants... sugar. I replaced it with water, tea and juice with apple cider vinegar. Joints and gut feel so much better.

Tell me about that.

I drank a lot of soda in college and after. I worked construction for the summer after graduation and my boss loved his Dr. Pepper and we had soda breaks every day. I got tired of all that sugar, I was gaining weight, and kept getting terrible heartburn so I cut out the regular soda intake. I just stopped buying it. Also found out I had a hiatal hernia. Tried switching to coffee, which I like, and I can only do a couple of cups before it tears my guts up. Years ago I switched to tea as advised by my doctor. I found green tea gives me terrible heartburn so I switched to black tea. I hated it at first but I needed the caffeine so I kept going. Controlled the heartburn with meds and lots of Tums. Two hears ago I got the hiatal hernia fixed (best thing I ever did) and now I can drink coffee and soda without a problem. I only drink soda on occasion as once in awhile I just want a soda. The last soda I had was, what, three weeks ago?

When I eliminated almost all sugar from my diet, even the little bit in a morning juice like cranberry/cherry was too sweet. I was having cholesterol issues, so I started putting 1-2 tablespoons of the apple cider vinegar in morning juice. Gives it a good kick and may be an alternative to the kick people may get from energy or caffeine drinks! The joint thing was side benefit that I noticed after a few months. Stopped using it and joint pains came back; not real scientific but I'm a believer.
