This can be solved in a couple years in either Ames or Houston. As for this year give me Houston unless we beat them in the dance.

Houston looks like the polished version of who we want to be, with a bit higher caliber talent running it. Smothering max intensity defense and make enough shots on the other ends. Plus having an All American guard helps.

Last year ISU lost to TCU at home 44-59 (-15)

Then they turned around and beat TCU in FW 54-51 (+3)

Using the transitive property ISU was 18 points better than ISU.

Recruiting looks fine. Can't count on it until they're here. As far as offense, we leave a lot to be desired. Yes, I've seen Omaha play for about 10 years now.

Sure, they have better offensive players. I just think we'll continue to lose/not attract good offensive players if all we do is run a high post handoff with 3 guys standing around the perimeter. Think Hunter saw that writing on the walll.
If that was the case, he shouldn’t have transferred to Texas.

Houston looks good on paper but they haven’t beaten anyone. They played one good team and lost.

I posted this in the general bball thread but Houston looks a lot like last year's Tech team to me but better.

Claiming that all we is run a high post handoff with 3 guys standing around is a clear indicator that you are completely clueless. You must have missed the significant % of possessions where a pure motion offense is run or too flippin dumb to recognize it.

Strictly working with the #s against a single common opponent, the answer is YES! Beyond that, probably gonna go with a negative.

(All stats are from barttorvik.com)

Opponent is North Carolina A&T

Score
ISU 80-43 (+37)
Houston 74-46 (+28)

Game Tempo
Both games had a tempo of 68 which I find interesting

Adjusted Offense (highest # better)
ISU 111.2
Hou 103.6

Adjusted Defense (lowest # better)
ISU 72.2
Hou 76.2

Game Score
ISU 99
Hou 97

Now North Carolina A&T's #s

Adj O
vs ISU 79.6
vs Hou 90.8

Adj D
vs ISU 112.1
vs Hou 94.8

GS
vs ISU 2
vs Hou 38

So there it is people undeniable proof that we are in fact better than Houston.
Wow! Now if that would translate to real life, fantastic!! My own opinion on a different team is that U Conn is the best team in the USA!

We are a defensive-minded team. We don’t have players with good offensive skills.

Not sure why you a quoting me. I made no assertions about Houston. My only point there was the fallacy of transitive property in sports scores since the transitive property I used "proved" that Iowa State was 18 points better than Iowa State.

I award you zero points and may God have mercy on your soul.

Houston is #1 on Torvik after removing all preseason bias.

Their game-by-game game scores look like this --

1671042485834.png

They've been dominant save for a clunker win against an inferior opponent (Kent State) and losing a hard-fought game to an excellent Alabama team in Portland ('Bama is #12 on Torvik).

Same thing for Iowa State --

1671042543502.png

Good but not great wins over Villanova and UNC
Clunker against (an admittedly great) UConn team
Clunker against North Dakota
Best win of the year against a pretty good St. John's squad
Iowa gave them the Deliverance treatment
Otherwise good performances against vastly inferior opponents

Houston is a much better team given the data that we have.

Well can you honestly say ISU wasn't 18 points better than ISU...granted it'd be rough with our offense going against our defense..sadly I think the defense would score more
