Like I said, it's great. The issue I have is people using it as the be all end all like the original post I quoted acting like we don't need anything or anyone else on the staff because we have a guy that recruited a couple of guys that are going to get looks in the NBA to Murray St.

I was mostly saying that tongue in cheek. But the point still stands that Small recruited two guys to Murray State that ended up in the NBA. Now if Prohm decides he's not going to fill the final 2 spots because he got Small, then yes, that would be a problem.

I just find it funny how people freak out because a guy isn't coming here. All of a sudden the staff (that isn't even complete) is somehow not impressive.
How many people knew the name Isaac Chew a month ago? Let's hope the future of Iowa State basketball wasn't dependent on him.

I agree we need a coach to recruit with the best of em in the midwest. But you cant downplay how impressive it is to bring kids to a S***Hole like Murray, and more so develop them into NBA prospects.

Have you ever been to Murray, KY? It's actually a nice little town

My concern comes from those in the know during the interview process who had seen the list Prohm submitted of assistants he planned on bringing in and they have stated that it was the worst list of those interviewing. Sounds like Small is going to be the most impressive of those on staff and this is just a buddy who hasn't spend any time above the mid major level.

Prohm's list is different than a guy like TJ. TJ needs proven X's & O's guys like Doc/Lutz, whereas Prohm doesn't. He needs guys that are likeable and can recruit.

TJ's list included Barret Perry who would fit in well

Because of Prohm's extra 2 years of coaching experience, 0 of which is at the major college level? I think Prohm would be well served to get an X's and O's guy that has assisted at this level.

Oh God all the TJ fans are back with their butthurt.

I don't remember all the TJ butthurt when he left for UW but now that we didn't hire him as a HC we have to shut down our MBB program apparently.

the decision was made. All of the candidates had pros and cons. None were heads above any others.

I agree and the fact that it's two guys. The rest of the team is full of guys who couldn't sniff the big 12. Plus it's not like the pulled in top100 talent. ISU isn't going to win the Big 12 getting a team full of under the radar recruits.
I think Prohm can be a good recruiter and Small as well but let's wait to see how they do recruiting big 12 talent against other power 5 schools before saying they good recruiters.

It's obvious that if the next ISU assistant coach hire is not Fizer, we have failed as a university, an athletics department, and each us of individually at life. May god have mercy on our souls. Our pet's heads are falling off.

I completely agree with that. And hey, before we have "concerns" about who is hired as an assistant and whom is not, maybe we could wait until we see who is actually hired?

I think Chew woulda been a really nice get for ISU, but there are lots of fine assistants out there. I am sure Prohm will fill out his first staff with some guys we all like. At the end of the day though, all that matters is how they work out here a year, two, three from now.

We aren't hiring resumes, we are hiring people who need to get here and do the work.

Here's a suggestion: wait till TJ or Underwood or any other candidate you wanted to "win" gets a head coaching job and root for that team. Problem solved.

Actually FWIW, Jeremy said the exact same thing.

Listen, don't take this the wrong way but not everything that came out of Jeremy's keyboard was right. All this rumor-mill crap is just that - crap. The bigger things to worry about are who Prohm can ACTUALLY hire aside from Small. Several posters have made the point that it's going to be hard to get a coach at this point in the year and that's why I think the current staff has some leverage - they may only be here a year, but Prohm may be looking at them as a "best option" at this point for several reasons, not the least of which being that nobody GOOD really wants to bail on their current program at this point.

Hoping that Prohm can get the staff he wants, but it wouldn't be the end of the world to retain Mann and TJ for one more year and then search during next offseason.
