You suppose Levelle Moton would want to be associate head coach? He's been impressive and I just love his personality

He's coaching at his alma mater and although it isn't the case at Iowa State, very rarely do coaches want to leave that. He wouldn't leave that to be an assistant for sure.

Are there any examples of sitting HC's leaving their jobs to be an assistant somewhere? I would guess it's pretty rare.

At the higher levels, definitely. At the low major level, I think it happens on occasion. No facts to back that up though. I just think he is a real special guy. Should have plenty of opportunities at the midmajor level if he wants it.

I thought he might be in the mix as head coach here honestly.

But again he's not going to leave his school to be an assistant for a first time head coach that he doesn't know.

I know we are all taught to expect that people will do that, but they don't all that often.

Yeah,I'd be curious to see what he could do here, but that is a huge step up.

Might be remembering this incorrectly, but pretty sure one of Tim floyd's ac hires was an active coach at Alcon state. He was the guy at uni b4 McDermott.

Don't expect a known commodity, what proven coach would gamble his career on someone who is not known nor can provide evidence of success?

Call Bobby Lutz. He did it once. Fred was a role player in the NBA, a good one, but just that. Then he worked in the front office of a lower level NBA team. Seems to be not much of a reach to go to work for a new head coach, who is a seasoned assistant with solid P5 college experience and and a history recruit of recruiting. Plus, your walking in with a Top 10 team. :pmad:

yeah, Fred was real unknown, plus Otz wasn't in high demand

Your right. Outside the state of Iowa, and especially outside the fan base Hoibeg was just another past player. The basketball "world" wasn't impressed and neither was a lot of Cyclone Nation, hiring Hoiberg (see CW's earlier posts about the hire 5 years ago for those details).
