I see it’s time for the annual non-con attendance-panic thread. These games have always been thin - even in 2000! - with maybe the exception of the last few Hoiberg years. It would be helpful if we could get true attendance numbers and do a legit comparison, but, for a Sunday afternoon in December, it’s not that surprising.

They oversell the student tickets and then the students who go to every game have to fight the ones who only go to big games to even get in. My sons who went to every game barely would make it into the Iowa game when they had a mandatory attendance class late on game day.

Some points system where they track attendance at prior games for admission to the big games would help.

If they take away students seats they need to reduce activity fee going to athletics. They should do that anyway for what they did moving them in football.

Yes and outside of Oregon State and Iowa, we played a bunch of SWAC tomato cans. Not gonna pull great attendance for those teams.

And we had solid attendance for conference play overall, especially considering how bad we were offensively.
We beat a ranked Xavier, Ranked Memphis, and creighton in the non con as well lol. Going into the baylor game we were ranked 8th in the country.

We already moved the students for football and moved student seating back from the floor. Students bring the noise and excitement to the games.
I get it. But only two of the 16 (or however many there are) rows in the student section we’re full in the upper deck yesterday. Feels like there’s something we could do to sell those tickets to the general public - at least for non-con excluding Iowa. Maybe even weeknight conference games.

I’m not even complaining about the student attendance - just trying to think if there’s a better way to do it to maximize attendance at games.

Where was everyone yesterday? A sunday afternoon, facing an undefeated team, while we are ranked and the place was maybe 60% full. No students in the upper level and basically zero people followed the striping scheme they emailed out. What the heck is going on?

I was there, the athletic dept needs to stop with this stupid color crap. I don't own a gold hoodie, so I wore cardinal.

Extend it to other sports. Want to get into ISU-Kansas MBB? Earn points by going to soccer, volleyball, WBB, etc.

No I know but the non-con games we played after we beat those teams were against horrid opponents. It’s not a shock we didn’t fill Hilton against Chicago State and Jackson State.

They have stores now that sell shirts, some of those shirts might even be gold in color.

How did you get past the ushers without a ticket? Sorry, I'm not buying it.
Had the same thought. I've sat in the lower bowl several times and always had my tickets checked, but that was a while ago so I don't know if policies have changed.

People need to relax about the Cyclone alley bleachers. The old bleachers were shot and they were at the mercy of what was available to be installed. The old bleacher's had those crappy bolted down seats, the AD wanted more of a permanent bench type seat.

I've sat in the lower bowl a ton and you aren't getting down there without a ticket. Those old ushers are serious business.

Overall, the availability of gold apparel is pretty small compared to cardinal. I've said that for years.
Maybe relatively speaking to other colors, but you could walk into Cys Locker Room, the book store, Strawberry Patch, etc. and find many different gold shirts.

Our student section sucks. Time to start selling the upper level student section to the general public minus the KU and Iowa games. Even then, the KU game last year was the first time I ever remember the student section not even filling up that game.

Also, the color scheme attempt was a dumb idea. Iowa State has shown time after time that they don't get behind those.
Yup. People are gonna wear what they want to wear to games. They likely want to wear what they have worn for the past 20+ years since those clothes are their "lucky" Cyclone BB clothes. Or for me, I wear what now fits....

ESPN’s production has dropped. Do they not mic the students anymore? They need to pipe in more crowd noise into the broadcast.
I thought it was just ESPN+, but ESPN2 wasn’t much better in terms of piping in more crowd volume and less commentator volume.
